I've been revisiting this band lately too. Brother, Sister is still absolutely amazing and is without a doubt my favorite album. Pale Horses may be ahead of Catch For Us The Foxes as my second favorite now though. Need to get around to thebrest, especially It's All Crazy because I've still never listened to it.
it's all crazy is weird, fun, and not an album you'll be revisiting very often. Definitely not mwY's best album but a very interesting approach to music for them.
"Every Thought" is one of the few songs on it's all crazy! I ever revisit. That album will always be my least favorite by far, and that includes their debut. "Fiji Mermaid" is wonderful.
For me, "It's All Crazy!" is everything I never knew I wanted in a mewithoutYou album. I think each album has gotten progressively better than the last.
"It's All Crazy" is the one mwY album I can't dig. It's all the way bottom for me but I spin it through to see if it'll click someday.
I can't believe with songs like every Thought, Fox/Crow/Cookie, Angel of Death, goodbye, I, BtB2, Timothy Hay, Cattail Down, King Beetle, and Allahx that IAC gets hate. Even Fig with a Bellyache explodes into a beautiful song after the annoying intro
but they are my favorite band and I will think that everything they have done or will do will always be perfect
Some of those songs I don't really like much at all (Thought, Angel, Allah) and I think BTB is great up until the second half which ruins it for me. Fox and Beetle are the only two songs I love on there, the rest are at best just ok for me which is a big step down from everything else theyve done where I love like 95% of it, ha.
it's wild how this band literally doesn't have a bad album in their discog. Like I think about how some bands write an amazing album or two and then fizzle out and then you have fucking MewithoutYou writing one good album and having every subsequent album be fucking excellent. insanity tbh
I can understand it not being everyone's taste. However, trying to be as objective as possible I still don't understand anyone who thinks [A-->B] Life is better as a whole than it's all crazy. I mean, I do love the former due to the angsty emotion, the punchy lyrics and a healthy dose of nostalgia, but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near the latter in terms of overall quality. I do echo the above comment though - there isn't a bad album here. There is something to embrace on each release.
also I've said it before and I'll say it til the day I die, It's All Crazy is a ride or die for me, it rules
Interesting you mentioned this song... I was playing it on the guitar and singing along this morning and afterwards my wife said "I don't like that song, it was very intense". Because the entire album is lighter musically than some of their other work and that track has a lot of strings, I've never considered it to be intense so it made me laugh. But I guess it is quite intense. Or maybe my singing was too dramatic. Ha!
It's definitely a super intense song. Might be the best on the album. And possibly a top ten mewithoutYou song in general. Tangent: The Other Stories EP songs are better than a couple on Ten Stories imo
Julien The Onion is a ridiculously clever song, the amount of puns and wordplays in that track is astounding yet it never once comes off as humorous. I mean, it kindve does because of the barker making these jokes at Juliens expense, but that ending of Julien telling them that theyll get their just desserts for mocking him is chilling. Four Fires is also a brilliant little track, I'd swap it and Aubergine out if I had my way. His faith and love was still devoooooout.
I think I'd add them to the full album but I could never replace a single song on 10S. What songs do you think are weaker than Julian the Onion and Four Fires?
I could not imagine Ten Stories without February, 1878. Haha That song sets up the whole album so flawlessly both from a story perspective and a musical one.
Ah man.. Read your post and now I'm jamming the shit out of that song. Forgot how fun it was! All the chords.
