Hahah In totally blanked on WVA. Time to relisten Yep they finally played fig! IIRC Almquist said they were trying to pull out Michael near the end of the final tour but I think it just didn't come together Maybe they add It's the End if the World cover to Volume 3
michael is one of my favorite songs ive ever heard but i also genuinely cannot imagine how difficult that one would have been to pull off
Excited to check this out. hoping the sun and the moon is on volume 3. That grooved so hard on that song live
Idr the first one well, idk if I ever listened all the way through, but the set list on Two is insane, wow.
For me personally, Vol. 1 is a more consistent listen. Vol. 2 has some of my absolute favourites, but also a couple I rarely listen to. The first 8 tracks on Vol. 2 are insane!
I’ve felt the same way. Wondering if the liner notes say. Been thinking about grabbing the vinyl even though I’m not a huge live album person. I’d shell out to support them and know their album packaging is always top tier.
yeah for me, it would be a no brainer buy if I was at the show, which I saw them a good bit so it’s not impossible
went on a bike ride up the canyon this morning with volume 2. the shit eating grin i had on when memphis came on, let me tell ya. perfect compilation.
They do not. Per Mike Almquist: “Not revealing the locations of the recordings is intentional. Each volume is meant to be heard as a show that could have taken place anywhere, on any night of the week, at any time of the year, for the very first time. Calling the records “Live” (rhymes with “give”) is intended to place the band in a state of action and being again. Conceptually, the live albums are not a record of the past, but a window into a new moment in time.”
I haven’t really delved into these Live albums despite mewithoutYou being an extremely important band to me. I couldn’t make a show on their farewell tour happen due to work conflicts, a career I left and now deeply loathe because of how much I gave to it and how much I missed because of it. I think there’s a big part of me that would just be upset to listen through these given how upset I am that I missed out on the experience in person, but I recognize how silly that is, and I know I’ll give in at some point. Maybe when all 3 volumes are released I’ll grab them as a box set and give it some real time then. I miss this band so much.
for what it's worth, i also missed the farewell tour and when i listen to these live albums i do feel a little bit of sadness for missing out but i primarily just feel excited to hear each song and think about how great they were. all of the curation and attention to detail make these feel much more special than just listening to a single show recording. i would definitely recommend giving them a try whenever you feel up for it! but also i think they'll eventually come back someday
Volume 2 has been such a delight. In addition to things others have mentioned, A Stick, a Carrot, & a String into January 1979 goes so hard.
Multiple dates over the last few years. I think once they'd announced they were wrapping it up. They recorded every show and picked songs from various shows.
But for clarity, each volume is mixed and sequenced so that it all sounds like a single concert, complete with a bit of stage banter. IE if you didn't know any better it could very well seem like it it was just a single set recorded start to finish.
I understand the sentiment. Being in the UK we missed out as they cancelled their European final show plans due to the pandemic. I was all ready to go and see any shows they announced here and was so gutted they couldn’t do it after covid. However, the final live-streamed shows followed by these volumes have been a lifesaving way of connecting with something I missed and desperately wanted to be part of… hopefully you can make it to that place one day with these albums, but totally understand when it’s wrapped up in the pain of a career that caused you to feel like that.
