Pale Horses is #1 to me and #2 is literally whatever album i choose to listen to. I would not be surprised if they drop a record out of the blue in the next 5 years. I don’t need them to be a super active touring band. The world would be a better place if MWY makes more songs though.
I can't do another ranking because of how agonizing it is to me haha. I'd probably still land with Foxes up top though. I enjoyed the Stereogum write up much more than I expected but I will say that the mention of Ronald McDonald reviewing Pale Horses had me interested because I've seen a ton of his album reviews but clearly missed the fact that he did any mwY reviews at all ever. Boy had I wished I didn't look up his take on Pale Horses.
Pale Horses It's All Crazy! Brother, Sister Catch For Us the Foxes [Untitled] Ten Stories A-->B Life (but they're all great, of course)
Brother, Sister, [Untitled] Pale Horses Catch for Us the Foxes It's All Crazy A–>B Life Ten Stories Love seeing all the Pale Horses love, despite it not being at the top top for me. Like @Ronald. and many have said, a definitive "correct" ranking is just not imaginable.
Pale Horses was my entry into this band and it holds a special place in my music collection. I still remember seeing the video for Red Cow/Dorothy and just being amazed by it. I went down a crazy discogs run the following months and was constantly listening to them. Still curious to see how the other live albums will turn out. (And when the vinyl for the first part will arrive)
I'm in the minority and actually rank it higher than Pale Horses, which is still phenomenal. I have to do tiers, it's too hard to do by each album
I can only do tiers as well, with Brother, Sister, Ten Stories and at this point probably Pale Horses at the top. They have no 'worst' album, only 'least best.'
I actually forgot about the live album, I've somehow made it this far without listening. When the vinyl comes I'm going to be very intentional about listening to it with my full attention. So that likely means after 9 pm during a weekend when the kids are in bed lol
Pale Horses Catch For Us The Foxes [Untitled] Brother, Sister Ten Stories [A->B] Life it’s all crazy! It wasn’t that long ago that I still kept Foxes #1 out of nostalgia, and I’m already wondering how soon before [Untitled] overtakes it. Those last two albums become a lot more special when you’re feeling old, lol.
I also can’t rank. Pale Horses was the first release I got to anticipate from them because Ten Stories was my gateway. Both special for different reasons.
Introduced to the band by seeing them live in like '04. I remember standing in line outside the venue while Aaron was sitting on top of their tour bus reading a book right in front of us. Then I wondered what all the flowers on stage were for.
I think I like Ten Stories better than Pale Horses as well. but i feel like Im nitpicking to rank most of their albums. the only thing im sure of is I like Foxes the best
i held Catch and Brother,Sister at the top for a long time out of nostalgia. each block of two on my rating can easily alternate depending on the day.
sometimes I give Ten Stories gets a few extra points because of the b-sides. Also Bear’s Vision is underrated as heck
Ten Stories is great, of course. But it has their worst production by a country mile. Their sound is usually so immersive and that album feels so compressed. It's way better than most albums that sound that confined. But still, why?
Posted this in the vinyl forum too Got my mwy live album! There’s a small package and a sticker that say don’t remove until listening to the album. Now I can’t wait to listen. They have all their gear (guitars, amps, drums) listed for each band member too, what a cool touch
