  1. Sun and Moon is the weakest song. It needs a shorter or catchier chorus, it feels like it drags

Haha. Sun and the Moon is one of my favorites. I love the chorus. The handclaps and harmonies are stellar over Aaron's slow motion Kermit voice.

Definitely. The only song I don't love on there. N&B2 is probs my fav mwy song.

"See you in the car! Best wishes" -Milhouse Supporter

I've always liked "My Exit, Unfair" because the line "I said 'water' expecting the Word would satisfy my thirst" is pretty goddamn awesome and I love the Dylan-reference bridge or whatever you'd call it.

Second "In a Market Dimly Lit" as the dark horse song on Brother, Sister though. I don't think there's a weak song on there, but if I had to point to one that kind of sticks out as having a weird fit to it, it'd be that track.

What's the second song on bs? I don't like that one. Jeremy enigk, who I usually love, kills it for me

Rest of it is great tho

  7. Dryness and the Rain? waaaaat

Imagine not liking Jeremy Enigk on Brother, Sister or thinking The Sun and The Moon isn't a top three track on the album

  10. Psh, that song is great. Especially that bridge. Some of the my favorite mwY lyrics. And the borrowed lyrics from that hymn has a pretty cool background story

  11. In a Sweater
    Messes of Men
    O'Porcupine

definitely not a top three track haha

Sun and Moon is my least favorite but I hesitate to say anything is the weakest track on this album because it really is super cohesive, stellar front to back. I do agree it drags a tiny bit.

So last night was the last night of their UK tour and it was pretty special. First Aaron and Mike did an acoustic in-store, then we wnt down the road from the full gig and then because it was so unbelievably hot in the venue (the hottest I've ever experienced) they cut the set short for health reason and Aaron took his guitar down the road and played a good 40 minutes of requests and he played a tonne of stuff he's either never played or very rarely played. If that is the last time I ever see them I couldn't have asked for much more.

When he goes into those verses about Revelations I feel like he's sliding into more theologically radical / fundamentalist thinking under the pressure of thoughts about his dead father and new family. Like, even the fact that the music is more reminiscent of AB Life, which he's not personally a fan of iirc, makes it sound like he's giving into something. I don't know if that makes any sense haha

You guys are insane for not liking "Sun and the Moon". If you like mewithoutYou's instrumentation i think that song is a SIGNATURE song of theirs. Really unique, spacey sounding drums that use more toms than snare, a pulsing off-beat bass, and guitars echoing around in the atmosphere rather than playing a bunch of notes. Especially in the end when the main riff keeps repeating and deconstructs down to the drums and bass, and the drummer keeps hitting those pauses and hesitation beats, while "the sun and the moon are my father's eyes" slowly fades into inaudible noise in the background.. man that drives me crazy.

Excellent production and musicianship on that song. In fact it might be my favorite MWY song period. How dare you!

Also, "Wolf Am I!!" is a song I very much relate to right now. Kind of hit that point in adulthood where i've realized, hmm, im still unreliable in ways and still haven't done shit in life, and I sort of put across this facade of being an enlightened person when I don't actually live that way. Lot of self-doubt and self-criticism and all that jazz. Being 26 is fun.

It needs a top notch drummer, the guitar work is very complex for several songs, and needs proper rhythmic as well as dynamic emphasis in specific places to come across as a tight recording and not all over the place. I've noticed most drummers I play with find it kind of overwhelming to learn my songs - not that they don't make sense but they require a lot of memorization of parts, its not the kind of album you can just jam to and pick it up. Every note, melody, and rhythmic change is deliberate and came from years refining the details of my ideas. It's been an example of a common struggle in music - setting the scope of an album too wide and then not having the commitment from other musicians to make it happen.

The top notch drummer I was previously working with had to quit the band when he graduated school. He really is a pro. Drummers who actually really understand music and formal drumming technique and stay exactly on tempo without trouble are pretty rare and in high demand, so naturally he was in three bands at the time. One was a jazz band with much more established adult musicians that he actually got paid for every practice... and one was a band with his college roommates who were his best friends and both had music degrees... so it made sense that my band was the one he cut out when he had to get a 40 hour a week job.

Good news: 1) I am more than halfway done with an acoustic album called Knowing / Understanding. Biggest influences: Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Mountain Goats. 2) that drummer recently reached out to me, told me he has his own house and recording gear set up on his drum set and all that now, and wants to collaborate from time to time so Chimney Ash may still get finished in 2017.

Will the acoustic album be under "Terrain" or your name/another moniker? And, with your luck over the years, OF COURSE you'd encounter more drummer problems, lol. That sucks, man. Hopefully you're able to find time to record with him and finally bring your full vision to fruition!

It will be under the name Terrain, yeah. I don't know if you remember the song "Marienne" but that is on it.

Thanks for your interest, and support man! Not to derail the thread, back to mewithoutYou talk.

I see CFUTF as more of a stream of consciousness listen. I can't pick specific songs off it but when i listen i listen start to finish.
