the sign of a great album is when everyone has a different favorite song and obsesses over it the sign of a great band is when everyone has a different favorite album and obsesses over it
Brother, Sister is slightly ahead of Foxes for me, then Pale Horses is slightly ahead of Ten Stories then AB Life is a good bit behind and then Crazy behind that.
Will do, I'm gonna listen to it at least three times, and at least once with the lyrics in front of me. No #hottakes here. I know we've had this conversation before but it legit brings me pain to see it's all crazy that far behind haha. But it's cool, it's cool. I need more time with Pale Horses, because it has the potential to skyrocket to Brother, Sister heights for me. Also when I lumped all the rankings together earlier that was solely because they all range from excellent to very excellent in my eyes, except AB which is good to great depending on the day
Binging their whole discography with @Iago right now. Just wrapped up A->B Life, going through Catch For Us The Foxes.
After a full day of nearly nothing but mwY, I can finally rank their albums. Ten Stories Brother, Sister Pale Horses Catch For Us The Foxes A to B Life It's All Crazy! Every album has its redeeming qualities and all of them are great, some of them just speak to me more.
Honestly my only problem with Ten Stories is that it has eleven tracks and not ten (but I'd never actually complain about more mwY music)
eeh, I guess there are 10 stories and All Circles ties everything together like some sort of meta-commentary on the album/life or something... I don't want to think too much about this rn but aren't there some references to Heidegger's hermeneutic circle on the album or booklet too?
Ten Stories is, in my opinion, one of their denser records lyrically. I need to revisit, but there was a lot of wordplay that went by so fast that it went over my head because of the style of the story telling.
Yeah TS is a fantastic piece of music. That albums story is so interesting and the lyrics so descriptive. The "Other Stories" are really great too. Julien The Onion is both incredibly clever and devastatingly sad. There was someone a long time ago who made this huge post explaining Ten Stories story and the progression of the animals, I wish I could find it. It clarified a lot of things for me. I had no idea Fiji Mermaid was about the carnival decline after losing all the animals. The only thing is even that person who posted all of that didn't quite understand what the fuck Aubergine was about. Something about a talking eggplant and the elephants last meal before she's executed.
Yeah the elephant from hang the elephant is about to be executed so its having a spiritual conversation with the aubergine. Haha. I think I get the gist of most of the story, that was a great post though.
These are both worth a read. Really helped me get into some of the more obscure references (particularly some of the geography) of Ten Stories.
