Okay, I'm on my third listen through and it's really all coming together more and more. The only song I'm not feeling that much is [dormouse sighs] but if it's anything like past mewithoutYou songs I didn't dig much at first, it will eventually become my favorite on the album, haha
mwY albums are always growers for me, so I’m going to withhold judgment until I get a few more listens in. But after my first listen, I feel like this is not so different from the EP. Dirty Air, Cities of the Plain, and August 6 would fit fine on this record. Maybe Existential Dread too.
What a crowning achievement for him too. People used to knock his production pretty hard but I can't imagine this sounding any better.
New Wine, New Skin vocals are pure bliss. Mad props to Aaron, his vocals used to turn me off to this band (I know, I know) but there are moments where his vocals are straight up beautiful then moments where he sounds like Bannon from Converge.
this is one of the most exploratory rock records i've ever heard, i'm so glad y'all are hearing it now
2,459 Miles definitely would have fit on the ep. I think it acts as a great transition into the final act of the album though. I was not ready for Wendy & Betsy.
so many songs on here had me thinking "that was a great mewithoutYou song" and then something crazy happens in the last minute and i change to "THAT WAS AN ALL TIME GREAT MWY SONG" (looking at you, new wine).
finished my second listen and liked it more than the first, and I still love the singles and Winter Solstice more in context of the album
He got alot better with Amulet and Good Nature last year. Those albums sound really good. He wasnt quite there yet with Pale Horses.
