I will soon. I’ve found if I really dive into a new album (new EP, Julia) and “get” it, it goes a long way to getting into the back catalog.
I listened to that track like 30 times before i read the lyrics and found that nugget. It was such a good Saturday morning. Will remember it forever. Just stunning.
I admit it warms my heart to watch your world fall apart is probably one my my favorite lyrics. I love when Aaron gets petty.
Aaron’s subtle vocal delivery on “It’s not the person that dies, the WORLDS DIE inSIDE us!” is still one of the coolest things ever to me.
Well, I had a dream about this album last night. My Mom was cooking and made a dish corresponding to every song on the album. And also for some reason they decided to end it with "Rainbow Signs" again.
You say Judas is a brother of mine? Oh, but sister in our darkness a light shines prob one of my favorite lyrics ever.
One of the things that has surprised me is that I haven't seen that much discussion about the EP's lyrics here or elsewhere on the internet. Having said that, I came across the following post on Reddit titled "Cities of the Plain is maybe the most scripture-reference-heavy mewithoutYou song to date". It's by Dave Daugherty who released those PDFs examining the lyrics of Ten Stories and Pale Horses. Fascinating. I'd only caught two or three of these references.
