Totally agree. I've only listened to Julia once. SO pleased they put out the EP so I've not been tempted to listen to it. I like hearing albums in complete form on my first listen if possible. This is exactly why I try not to listen to singles. Feeling like I want to skip a song on my first run through of an album sounds like a nightmare I never want to experience, haha! Totally respect that is your choice though! Yes, looking forward to hearing the ebb and flow of a new mewithoutYou release.
I just took a trip to Alaska and listened to this a lot, especially Julia. I’m glad I’ll have those memories tied to these songs.
This. I love spending a ton of time with a song before the album comes out because it always takes on new life for me in the context of the album. Honestly, it doesn't spoil it for me at all. Also, skipping any song on your first run-through of an album is pure madness.
Ok so this band should have been the biggest band in the scene. I wonder what their career would have looked like had they not followed up B,S with Its All Crazy. I think they could have been bigger than any band in the “scene”
my boyfriend is decidedly not a Music Scene Guy, so it's pretty hard for him to keep track of all of my favorite bands. had a funny moment this weekend when I played the alternate version of "mexican war streets" and he was just like "this is SO beautiful what is this i can't believe you've never told me about this band."... so I had to remind him we literally saw them twice, on a boat. I showed him the new EP after that and he loved it, so we're on the right track.
I like it more than you do but I’m definitely not getting what most of the people in this thread are from it. it’s very good but just hasn’t hit me like it has for others
Also Julia might be one of my favorite songs from this year and I’ve never liked MWY much at all. I’m trying to slowly dip my feet into the water.
I've listened to Julia twice. Wasn't so sure about it the first time, but really listened hard the second time, and appreciated it more. I have no doubt that I'll love it, but I am the type to overplay a single and have it dampen the album experience.
I listen to Julia almost every day. Haven’t gotten tired of it yet and i won’t skip it when i hit play on the album
I mean theyre the most influential post hardcore band since the second generation post hardcore bands were alive and touring (i.e. Unwound etc.) Its just not super approachable outside of those circles because of the ‘ranty’ vocals and general strangeness
think the new record’s gonna go a long way in terms of 1) making them seem approachable 2) cementing their importance
