hey y’all don’t talk about the score! for all intents and purposes, this is close to the figure i gave them initially, and i knew there was no way they were going to give it a bnm so it was automatically limited to 7 territory
that was a really great review! you nailed the description of how this album follows on Pale Horses sonically
Favorite review of this album by a wide margin. You can tell that you've really thought about it a lot more than the authors behinds the others i've read. Also, thank you for giving New Wine, New Skins the coverage it deserves! This line is fantastic: "It’s as if he took the original Belle and Sebastian song and pulled it inside out until it was as bottomless and uncertain as his own thoughts."
I completely agree with you. I've been doing my own version of this over the last year by taking the following actions: Limit to one social media app on my mobile. No use of phone while waiting in medium to short lines. No phone at breakfast/lunch/dinner tables when I'm with other people. No use of phone at shows except to take pictures, sparingly. Funny enough, this has led me to meet other people at shows and have some great music conversations...including mwY last week. I don't think I want to get rid of the smart phone (podcasts, music streaming) but furthering on down this path of "limited use" feels like a nice alternative. Agree. Easing into anything like this is the best approach if you want real results and behavioral change.
oh yeah big props for giving Clear Best Song "New Wine New Skins" some coverage unlike literally every other review :D
well the first two paragraphs of this review are a joy to read cant wait to read the rest today at work also that score is a good score by all accounts
My take is finally up, after we slapped our WordPress around a bit for eating the finished draft. I could have easily written a thousand words on this. mewithoutYou – ‘[Untitled]’
I'm also not a huge fan of scores for that reason. Assigning a definite numerical value to an album means that every album which comes after will always be seen as being better or worse, and that's just not fair.
not to harp on this point again but 7.5 is a great score I don’t see the big deal? Anyway great review love seeing this band get positive coverage in a big publication
I was just expressing my dislike for numerical scores in general, not with 7.5 for this album. And yeah, it's really cool seeing mwY on the front page of Pitchfork!
But yeah definitely think 7.5 is good for Pitchfork, and nothing to sneeze at. The score for Pale Horses, though.....
All these great reviews make me wanna thrown mine in the trash but alas I soldiered on - it’s getting posted today or tomorrow
You're going to overtake my spot high upon the throne of Procrastination Palace and reign over Dawdle Dominion if this keeps up.
