the first part of "new wine new skins" even kinda sounds like a belle & sebastian song. the darkest belle & sebastian song of all time but still
Can you really make all things new? I have reason to believe you do Nothing new Break on through (to the other side) [part two] WELP
I still don't like the singular snare drum for 27 beats in a row and the ending, but everything before it is beautiful.
The songs here that have the classic mwY style riffs in them... examples being the verses of Hydra, 9:27, and Matadors... I dont dig those riffs a whole lot this time around. Pale Horses did the best job in that aspect post B,S.
Yeah I kind of feel similar. I love it because it reminds me of classic mwY, but because of how amazing their evolution has been I can't get enough of the "new" sounding mwY. If they had evolved into a sound I was ambivalent about, these tracks would be the stand outs. Instead, I get that "I love it but we've been here before" feeling from them.
I understand what you mean. But also I straight up just dont think those type of riffs were done as well this time around. Save for Wendy and Betsy.
I just had the realization that of all the bands I loved and adored from 2000-2010, mewithoutYou is the only one I still listen to. I'm a sad, strange old man and I need some pity. Farewell.
I rarely listen to new music outside of my favorite bands and their new releases. I can’t even remember the last band I discovered and liked.
I guess mwY is the only band from back then that evolved their music in lockstep with my tastes. They are literally the only constant in my music life since the age of 12. I'm always trying new music out, and I discover a band I love every couple years but it fades. Rainbow Kitten Surprise blew me the fuck away with their first LP back in 2013 and I hold it in the highest regard to this day. Their newest album is unlistenable for me. Same for Brand New and Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. I'm a music slut I guess.
This is me. I don’t really discover bands anymore. twenty one pilots might be the most recent I’ve discovered and enjoy.
