Plus animals plotting to wreck a train to escape and their experience afterwards has to be the coolest concept album idea ever. We’ll see where Untitled ends up sitting, but I think Ten Stories is my #1 for sure.
Ten Stories is one of the best albums of the decade. It’s also got their best mix of major and minor key stuff, i think. Definitely in my top tier of mwY albums (w/ Brother, Sister & Pale Horses).
Not about the review, but do you know why anytime I go to pf on my mobile browser it almost immediately freezes? Happens every time, can't visit the site from mobile. Wondering if it's a known thing, or just me
Grist and East Enders Wives both grew from "these are okay" to "holyfuckingshitgood" in the past year for me. namely Grist's chorus is a skyscraper and Wives' lyrics are some of the best album needed Four Fires tho
I recall you saying you were posting it Tuesday, so are you blueballing us or did you mean next Tuesday? Haha
Can't believe I held out until tonight. This is truly breathtaking. I didn't think nearer my God could be topped, but I feel like this may end up topping it for me. Also really amazing that they keep outdoing themselves so late into their career
Definitely. The only tour I’ve missed was when they supported Paramore last year as I couldn’t afford the tickets. But we’ve been blessed by three other tours since Pale Horses so I’m hoping they’ll visit sometime in 2019. This describes my feelings from back then exactly. I do feel for newer fans who didn’t have the “we’ll probably never hear from this band again” emotions between 2009 and 2012.
Ten Stories got me into the band so it'll always be special to me. Still their best album of this decade imo.
Almquist (their manager) on the album title: “Originally it was just a self-titled album and a self titled EP, but sometime in March I suggested it just be referred to in the press release as an untitled album and EP instead. Ironically the name of the album is both a name and also not a name. That irony emerged after several iterations to contextualize and stylize the stickers for the covers. I didn’t want people referring to it as self titled release so this was my way of guiding that.” HAPPY OFFICIAL RELEASE DAY EVERYONE!!!
A few listens in now. It’s so disorienting first couple listens that I’m finally getting to where I can really enjoy the record along with being wowed. 2,459 Miles might actually be my favorite song so far. Brings me to tears. The “You can leave me anytime” refrain is so sad but it also feels like one of the few specks of light on the album. Aaron sounds so dejected, but it’s also implied that the subject of the song isn’t leaving him. I resonate hard.
I didn’t even think about the fact that we’re going to start seeing a bunch of people who held out slowly fall in love with this thing. Exciting!
So in love with [dormouse sighs]. Those commanding drums alight a sense of impending doom, but I’m okay with it!
I know I can't believe there was a potential reality where I wasn't listening to this thing until today!
