Lyrically, that last verse on August 6th is AW being thoroughly on his AW bullshit and i am forever here for it lol
yeah the lyrics to August 6th are fucking off the wall, and the way he delivers them basically without taking a breath for 2.5 minutes is just wild
love the sort of folk approach with a vibe that is v different to that other also amazing folkish mwY album
I am unbelievably excited for this. Psyched to give the EP a listen tomorrow. Also, “it’s all crazy!” is the only album I can think of at the top of my head that I don’t love but I still think is brilliant. Like, the style simply isn’t my thing in many respects, and I rarely listen, but the songwriting is stellar.
I will say that I really dig "Every Thought," "Fox, Crow, & Cookie," and "Allah Allah Allah." So, it's not all bad. But, it's my least favorite album of theirs by a large margin, which I doubt will ever change. The worst couple times I saw them were also during that cycle.
...... this is transcendental Also oh are we talking about it’s all crazy people who don’t like it are all crazy right I’m so sorry I’m really baked and just very excited for new mewithoutyou
I understood it’s divisive nature coming off the heels of Brother, Sister. But now looking back I think it is a fantastic album, it’s just very different obviously. On it’s own merit it’s great though
Serious talk thing allah, the fox the crow, Timothy hay and goodbye I rank among some of my favorite mwy songs, it’s quite different but with a band like this the more different they can be the better IMO
I have never, in the 9 years that it's existed, been a fan of "King Beetle," and I've never personally seen what people love so much about it. If I ever tried to rank all their songs (which would be impossible), there's a possibility it'd be in my bottom 10. But, I like when people like things, so to the majority of their fanbase who loves it, you do you. "Timothy Hay" was just annoying 'cause it's dangerously similar to my first & middle name, which my mwY-loving friends got too much joy out of for a little while, lol. But like much of the album, I think it's alright, just not particularly interesting. Those few songs I do dig from the album, though? I listen to them as much as a lot of my favs from their other albums. So, I'm glad I at least got those out of that release. And with that, I'm gonna finally go to bed. Work in the morning and whatnot.
It’s ok. I don’t like Grist For the Malady Mill. Probably the only song of theirs I’m I’m super mehhhhhh about. Which I know is unpopular
