On first listen, I can confidently say this is leaps and bounds better than Strange Peace. I still wish they took a few more gambles in expanding their sound because I think this album proves it works when they do. The Fugazi influence in "Hail Taxi" makes it one of my favorites and the Jesus Lizard-like angular guitar on "Draw Us In" is noteworthy as well. The rest of it is more Metz by the numbers which is still better than most bands but still leaves you wanting a little more.
Skimmed through this the other day and it sounds really good. Gonna give it a proper listen at some point.
A Boat to Drown In is my favorite track this year. Dunno how to explain it but the zoned out bridge is really hypnotizing.
A year to the day since I said this and I still haven't haha. I am, however, starting with their first album now and working my way through their discography in order. If the first couple of tracks of the first album are anything to go by, I may not have a face by the time I get to this album, though.
