Dang, I was actually considering skipping it because it's ONLY on 3ds and the cheapest I can find locally is $120 for the system. I just got the Wii U ($100?) and it's got everything else on there, so I was just going to play through those and be happy but now I'm seriously conflicted. I just feel like it's ideal to play ZM, then SR, then SM, then Fusion. Ugh.
According to Citra, compatibility with Samus Returns is under the Great column, which is completely playable with only minor glitches. I haven't tried it myself to judge, but... just pointing this out for absolutely no reason at all.
That's actually a wonderful idea. I should also note that the only things I'd play on the 3ds would be Metroid SR and whichever professor Layton games are available ( your avatar)
Seems like OG Metroid and OG Metroid 2 are no longer the canon versions of those games either. Zero Mission and Samus Returns are the canon games now.
If you are just looking to experience Metroid 2 in a non frustrating version (the original). Download AM2R. It’s a great fan remake that brings the game up to Super Nintendo quality. It’s a quick and easy download that runs perfectly even on my crappy work laptop.
AM2R should be played regardless. It's a fantastic remake, and all the more impressive that it was made by one person.
Yeah it’s unfortunate that he received a DMCA from Nintendo so quickly and was kinda forced to end his updates with the game, also that the limelight was stolen as Sams Returns was announced like right after he released it. But his recognition on the game is what landed him a job at Moon studios as level designer for Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Going from working on a fan remake by yourself in Argentina, to working on a highly anticipated Microsoft published sequel is a really cool story.
They need a patch so you can wear the Metroid suit the entirety of a new game, and add a boss rush mode.
Beat the game, and it was great overall but I definitely have some minor complaints. “Hard Mode Unlocked” felt like a punch in the gut at the end though.
Beat Metroid zero mission last night and I've never been so proud of an accomplishment. I'm going to add it to my resume. Mother brain was a serious endeavor.
Its weird how this is my favorite genre and I've only ever played Super Metroid from this series and that was like six months ago
Once you beat a boss for the first time, you’re left wondering how you could have been so bad the previous 10-100 tries.
oh, i never updated in here, but i'm upset how quickly they died when i actually really focused on using the storm missiles properly lmao, i tried using them the first time and kept getting hit and interrupted so i thought "alright i just don't have time to use those" and tried to just use normal missiles. this is what happens when you are not an Epic Gamer™
Call me when Tim Rogers posts his 5 hour action button dot net review of Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch.
My new 3ds xl finally arrived and I got to spend about 45 minutes with Metroid: Samus Returns and all I can say is wow, you can absolutely tell it's closely related to Dread in a lot of ways. Side note, the 3d feature on the 3ds makes me a bit... dizzy? do not love.
I turn on the 3D occasionally just to check it out but I don't think I've ever played more than a minute straight with it on
