Yeah I dig this album a lot. Definitely the most consistent since Synthetica. The last two albums have songs on them I really love, but also songs I skip right away lol.
i'm only 4 songs in and this is already leaps and bounds above anything they've done over the past decade.
I didn't get into Synthetica and Pagans In Vegas but Art Of Doubt brought me back in and this one might be even better. I can't think of anything negative to say about it.
It's been so long since I've last heard it so I don't even remember why. I'm due for another listen to see if I view it differently now.
Yeah you definitely should run it back. To me it's basically a direct sequel to Fantasies, not quite as great as Fantasies, but the same vibes and plenty of excellent stuff
That's surprising to read, because I got into the band through Fantasies and my main reason for dismissing Synthetica back then may have been for not sounding like its predecessor enough. But yeah it's time to go back to it with a fresh mindset!
I'm afraid this one doesn't do it for me either. Was hoping it would be more fun. At least I still have Fantasies and Live it Out.

from their e-mail newsletter Yes, it’s true, there IS a Formentera II. The part two companion album of ✨nine songs✨ is coming out Oct 13, and today we are releasing the first single, “Just The Once.” The only way I seem to be able to describe “Just The Once” is to call it "regret disco,” which by the way I have decided and can say first hand from personal experience is 100% for sure a thing. It's a song for when you need to dance yourself clean. Because isn't it amazing how easily you can let things slide as a moral human being? Also lyrically it’s just basically me noticing the whole time how "once" is a simple word with many meanings, a word that plays a game of opposites. Once can mean once-upon-a-time and refer to a moment in the past, or it can mean someday, once something happens. And as for doing something only once versus doing something once in a while, well, I think we all know how vast the difference is between those two meanings. I’m so happy this day has arrived and you can finally hear something from this album! It was hard to keep the existence of Formentera II a secret, but I really wanted to announce this one year after we released Formentera, maybe because it gave me some sense of closure or symmetry, who knows. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a damn maze and maybe you do too, or maybe you have it totally together, or maybe you feel like you’re always floating somewhere in between. Wherever you’re at right now, I am here to guide you to the ⚡️rocking⚡️ conclusion of our Formentera I & II odyssey. All eyes on Oct 13 obvs but yes you can pre-order Formentera II as well as the full double album Formentera I & II on vinyl now. We have several limited edition color versions and all the beautiful things for you. I’m told quantities are limited, so if you want to have it head on over to ilovemetricstore.com
from their e-mail newsletter Hi there Today we are releasing the second single from our forthcoming album Formentera II, a dreamy deep summer campfire ballad called "Nothing Is Perfect.” This song stands out on Formentera II as the lone track that is carried by only acoustic guitar and vocals. We explored soooo many renditions of it during the recording process, but in the end found that everything we tried adding seemed to detract from the essence of it. Lyrically, "Nothing Is Perfect" takes the common expression away from its usual meaning, giving substance to "nothing" as a concrete thing that can be actively pursued and obtained: Nothing is perfect/ I've earned it/ All absence achieved/ No fences, no exits, no lies. For the official music video, we worked with Justin Broadbent to create an atmospheric and surreal visual accompaniment to enhance the otherworldly mood of the song, with stylistic nods to Terrence Malick and David Lynch. The song ends with a meditative and anthemic repetition of the word From “Doomscroller” to “All Comes Crashing” to “Just The Once” to “Nothing Is Perfect”... I've lived and breathed these songs and now they each have a life of their own. Hope you’ve been enjoying our slow reveal of songs from Formentera II leading up to the release on October 13, I'm beyond excited for you to hear the whole thing! So yes, there is more to come. In the meantime, the vinyl of the full double album Formentera I & II are available for pre-order now at ilovemetricstore.com as well as colored vinyl, limited edition apparel and all the things we made especially for you.
