Night 2 was mayyyyybe better. Just a spectacular weekend. Metallica Setlist at Soldier Field, Chicago
The Chicago shows were so cool but I have to share the highlight of the entire weekend... My wife and I sat beside a dad and his kid, who looked to be about 10-12. On Night 1 the boy looked bewildered and nervous about everything around him; drunks, loud hooting and hollering, folks lighting up cigs and joints, the loudness and spectacle of the show. Last night (Night 2), Metallica was 3 songs in and when we looked over the kid was giving his dad the BIGGEST hug and immediately started rocking out and singing along. I feel like we watched this kid take in his first concert and then felt comfortable the second night to just take it in and have a ball with his dad and his favorite band. On the off-topic/personal side, we don't want kids but love being aunt and uncle to amazing sib-kin. We were brought to tears seeing that moment as we hoped it would be a formative memory for the kid and his dad. It brought me back to my first concert (the KISS Psycho Circus arena show) that my dad took me to when I was 10. THE POWER OF LIVE MUSIC, PEOPLE!
I saved up and got myself a Boss pedal kit this week. Looked online and found some pre-amp and EQ presets for tones like Master of Puppets and Sandman. I have always liked Metallica, but never really played along to their music, and I’ve played guitar for 25 years. Just cranked the gain on my amp and played whatever pop punk songs I was into. Never, ever invested in pedals or anything else before this week. Holy shit guys, these are SO much fun to play. I must have spent 90 minutes last night just riffing.
It’s a slippery slope. Neural DSP plugins have taken way too much of my money/time once I found them!
being at that show was quite the experience. that country fried version of fuel, acoustic darkness, orion, unforgiven 2… yeah.
Black Album certified 2 x diamond (20 million) by the RIAA. Think it was at 16 before. Master of Puppets up to 8m from 6m. Their numbers are truly outstanding.
Went to Night 1 in Philly last week. Hadnt seen the band in 20+ years so it was overdue. I will say that I was left kind of disappointed, but I understand the reasoning. I only wanted to go the first night, and I understand that they play 2 completely different sets and respect that and think its great for hardcore fans. There were just atleast 5 songs I really wanted to hear that they played night 2. Back in the early 00's if you saw Metallica, you got it all in one set. Granted they pull out some lesser known songs for these shows to showcase their catalog, but just bummed I didnt hear One and a bunch of other songs. Honestly, the highlight of the night for me was Limp Bizkit. Have been a fan of theirs for 25 years and enjoy their live shows. As they started their second song it started to downpour. The energy just got better as I got wetter (and cold), the entire place was into it. The set got messed up since DJ Lethals equipment all crapped out. He even just started taking the DJ booth apart and giving his dead equipment to the crowd lol. Fred Durst made it work and the crowd didnt sour.
Philly shows were phenomenal. LB playing through a monsoon after lethal’s rig fried was one of the most legendary concert moments I’ve ever experienced.
