Gonna sneak this in while people are busy processing the new record: I continue to come around on Lulu.
I listened to Lulu a couple times earlier this year and honestly weirdly dug it, lol. So indulgent in a compelling way.
Pretty cool that in 2023 they can still put out a song like Inamorata. This actually sounds like some doom metal version of Metallica... just fresh, really catchy groove, interesting lyrically... really dig it.
It’s the bravest thing this band will ever do. And what fun is it being the biggest, most bulletproof band in planet Earth if you don’t use that to take some chances and try some shit? Plus how often can you say a record is genuinely unique.
Why any band, let alone Metallica, is releasing a 77 minute album in 2023 is beyond me. Each member is playing simultaneously throughout the runtime and it’s downright exhausting and it lacks dynamics. While there’s some absolutely killer riffs and vocals (holy smokes, James!) I wish they would edit themselves more and be strategically economical.
I know, right? Who has time for that? Most people just throw on music in the background, anyway. They should just put out an album of instrumentals. And they should all be no more than three minutes long, I've got other things to do today.
I can listen to The Mars Volta, Between The Buried And Me and others with super long ass albums with no problem. They know how to keep things dynamic and interesting from one part to the next, and I never end up wondering when it's gonna end. Metallica however have struggled making their songs justify their length for so long that I'm apprehensive about listening to this.
The few shorter songs are actually quite good. And some parts of the longer songs are too, but they just meander on for way too long.
same. I think I'm just gonna do the theater instead and save like $400 and probably have a better view/more comfort
This has grown on me. I could cut a couple songs but most are good. Still too long overall and repetitive in places
