OOOOOOOOOOHHH metallica chatter! first: the awmh show was awesome as fuck! the acoustic versions of creep and dead were great, and the inception moment of the band playing 'the rearranged for acoustic, but played electric' disposable was fire. really dug the virtual cube setup. i'll gladly buy streams of other artists that take this template, especially if they plan to release the show on mp3. second: musically, the lulu album is amazing. i think that the spoken word vibe over that kind of sound really doesn't work. when the verses become melodic, like brandenburg gate or iced honey, the songs are easier to digest sonically. but if i was ever offered to collaborate with metallica, or madonna, or anyone else... you bet your ass i would! the 'lulu hate' is kind of starting to become as ignorant as the nickelback hate, imo.
As the biggest Metallica fan I know (for over 20 years), I still don't think I've ever made it all the way through Lulu.
The live stream was cool though. The virtual wall was neat, and they did a lot more fan interaction than I expected. Was also nice to hear new arrangements of some of the songs, considering I've heard most of the stuff enough to last me a lifetime.
Honestly the worst thing in that Hyden article is that he's kind of negative about Berlin, which is amazing.
hyden is not a good writer and the idea that lulu should be disregarded as a metallica album is an incorrect one even if it allows him to like it or whatever. i fucking love lulu because it is as much an avant garde metallica record as it is an avant garde lou reed record, cf. the thrash metal riff that actually becomes kind of a drone on "mistress dread." i acknowledge that james' singing on it is st. anger-level rough but i kinda like that, whatever. the riffs are often rad ("dragon"), the parts where they stretch out are fucking weird (drum solo in "pumping blood"), and it is undeniably reed's lyrical masterpiece imo
This is an insane lineup of artists. It just sucks that they're shackled with only one album. Would have been cool for them to cover whatever Metallica they wanted.

Definitely a cool idea in theory but I can count on one hand the amount of covers on that I’m interested in hearing
Twelve covers of Nothing Else Matters. Seems churlish to complain about something like this but come on.
Wow I assumed it would be one artist per song like usual EDIT: Also, I assume Ghost's cover will sound similar to this which is already pretty badass
