Not arguing the relevance of either band but using the song title to try to prove your point is a bit weird since Blink-182 have a song with the same title on their newest album and with nostalgia being a well-trodden subject in pop-punk.
Spotify listeners means absolutly nothing, 1985 is in Spotify gym curated playlists and throwback playlists lol do you really think those people are gonna go buy a ticket and see them live? no they aren't.
Spotify listeners doesn't mean everything, but it means something. There's def like 2M active listeners in that bunch I'm working with Fastball right now (new single "Rather Be Me Than You" just came out, hook it up people it's SO catchy)...evidently Jaret from BFS is a huge Fastball fan, so I've been following him lately. He is KILLING it. Almost 300k followers on TikTok: TikTok - Make Your Day I'm not a huge fan or anything (love Girl All The Bad Guys Want tho), but I'm amazed by the audience they've cultivated. Any metric that registers them as irrelevant I think would apply to most pop punk bands
BFS just played a sold out run in Canada and their Irish dates and US summer tour are also tracking to do well. They’re doing just fine for themselves
Oh dude, they are SO good. The new album rules. Produced by David Garza (who did Fetch The Bolt Cutters) and John Fields (who has done everything from Jonas Brothers and Miley to AWK), recorded at Sonic Ranch in Texas. And I mastered it with Howie Weinberg so it literally sounds like 90s radio. Pure pop goodness. Pretty much every melody on the record has been stuck in my head at some point in the past few months Back on BFS, I'm trying to get Tony Fastball on Jaret's tiktok to nerd out on the new single. It has one of the coolest I V VI IV choruses in a while
two of my friends bands are playing with mest next month in the south suburbs of chicago, if you are in the area come on out!
they were asked to because they draw well DUH mest needs local bands to bring people lol they are going up against this show the same day, so who knows who will actually show up
How would you compare the "stuck-in-my-head" melodies on the new/upcoming album with anything Fastball has done since The Harsh Light of Day, or even Keep Your Wig On? Just curious. I've followed them since the 90's and always appreciated their ability to write catchy melodies, but I've found their songwriting in the 2010's and beyond to be rather hit-or-miss.
New MEST album has a couple fun songs on it, like, it's better than the last thing they put out by a pretty big margin imo.
How’s the one with Zebrahead? I like the first two songs they’ve released, just wish it were more than 7 songs.
Track 3 according to Apple Music. I assume it features Adrian and not Ali considering the former was playing with Tony in Mest for a while.
3 and 4 were my favorites on first listen, it's very Wasting Time and super 2000s sounding, but like, kinda fun? I didn't recognize the guests the first time
This makes me super excited. Wasting Time was a huge record for me growing up. Can’t wait. Always wanted to see these guys. I know it’s just Tony and hired guns now, but he still sounds great live from videos I’ve seen.
2003/2004ish I saw that tour I think mest was doing a s/t run and fob touring off TTTYG I was a sophomore that was a fun show
Midtown / Mest / Good Charlotte is forever the most fun show I went to. Came out of that thing drenched in sweat and totally beat. Anyways I always enjoyed Mest more than most (through Photographs anyways). Wasn't much into the last one even with the original guys and Cameron Webb sadly. If there's even a couple that feel Wasting Time-ish, I'd be happy
