I have but unfortunately I just have horrible insurance and I can’t afford the copay. I looked into others that are supposed to be affordable without insurance but they are even more expensive. Hopefully I can find a better plan next year that actually covers things!

i know i'd get ripped apart in other parts of this message board, but you could try out one of the free AI mental health chatbots.

Earkick - Your Free Personal AI Therapist Chat Bot

i have no experience using this, but it's worth a shot.

you could probably get a book on cognitive behavior therapy, too, in the meantime. happy to start a book club or whatever.

Thanks everyone for sharing! I'm going to explore what's available through my insurance and probably check out the Psychology Today site that @JoshIsMediocre mentioned. I kind of felt that by just typing out that question and needing to ask that it was probably a sign I should explore things further.

I've been feeling like something is off with me lately, and I can't really figure it out. It definitely feels like more than typical stress, and my usual healthy coping mechanisms of focusing on physical health/exercise, music, etc. aren't working for me the way they have in the past.

I've been trying to jot things down as they come up and here are the overarching things I've kind of characterized:
    • I find myself at times making choices that I know in the moment I don't want to be making but can't really stop myself.
    • I find myself irritable and getting annoyed at the people/things around me for no real reason.
    • I find it hard to communicate with people around me, and it's not just having tough conversations like "I think I might need therapy" but even sharing good news

That 2nd point was an issue with me as well. Basically felt like my emotions were always on the cusp of boiling over all the time. I think the lexapro has helped with that specifically.

  5. Yep, been there as well. Still get there occasionally, but my wife and I are much better at recognizing when I need to take a breather from whatever we're doing and give my brain a break to calm down.

This is a little too dystopian don’t you think? Sorry health insurance in this country is a travesty, here’s a bot that doesn’t even know what it’s like to have an experience to talk to

idk... might be better than just sending someone off to read psychology today or a book on cbt or just toss them to the wolves.

newborn sucks but infant I think is fun. Yeah there’s terrible parts to it but at least they are starting to get a personality and laugh and play with and look at things. That first two months where they’re basically a lump that cries and pukes and shits sucks lol

yeah the first couple of months were tough. the baby bjorn was extremely helpful.

  10. Idk, I would absolutely recommend looking for a real human therapist online and researching reading materials over chatting with an AI therapist that has likely been trained on tons of conflicting misinformation with zero understanding of nuance, context, or the human experience.

i think i had earlier recommended to this person checking out growtherapy... which is telemedicine but connects people with real therapists. and they take a lot of different providers. but they said their insurance sucked and they were going to check out psychology today or something. obviously a real human in person is going to be the best to read body language and what not, but our health system is totally fubar.

  14. Fair, I just think I would opt for something like BetterHelp in the interim over AI but that's not a permanent solution either and obviously costs money. Just wary of taking the advice of chatbots trained on Google results.

if he’s had Covid at all, but especially recently, ask about things like microclots, and see if you can find a long covid doctor.

these days it's more physical pain than mental pain bugging me. i've learned how to cope with anxiety and depression. but i broke my foot a few years ago and was in a boot. i had to favor my other leg, and so now my knee on that leg has pain for no reason. going to physical therapy starting in a couple weeks. also, i did a lot of traveling sales for work before grad school (40,000/yr for 2 years) and got hit by bad drivers three times, twice totaling my car. the neck, shoulder, and side pain are persistent. not fun.

my wife is pregnant again and while it’s super exciting, we’re are only like three months out from us losing the last pregnancy which lasted about two weeks longer than where we are at currently so we’re both super anxious and micro analyzing basically every symptom she has whether it’s a positive and something she felt when we had our daughter or something that she felt when we had the failed pregnancy and it’s super taxing/draining tldr just want to fast forward to a month from now lol
