Germany just lost their first ever World Cup qualifier away from home...

Scared to see what Arsenal do if they ever win another European trophy tbh

I do remember hearing after the Eze deal that Palace were really happy that he didn’t go to Spurs because of how difficult Levy was being. I’m sure someone in the Athletic described the relationship between the two clubs as incredibly strained. And I guess that makes future deals even harder.

Seems like the kind of businessman you respect, but absolutely do not want to deal with yourself.

  9. If the long rumored stadium sponsor money comes in on top of this ENIC investment Spurs might be able to keep up

There’s also journalists speculating on them becoming an oil club. Very grim but hard to tell if they know something or are just farming for desperate clicks.

Do we think it would matter to the journalists if the oil was coming from oil fields in Texas?

  12. From what Ali Gold and some of the more reliable people have said, the Lewis family has no intention of selling right now.

But I do think oil money could be coming via the stadium sponsor.

Yeah, everything I’ve seen is that Lewis’ daughter is basically taking everything over and wants to keep it. Hope it’s not an oil takeover.

Sesko with an assist to rescue a point for Slovenia tonight. Great strength displayed. Gyokeres also got an assist. Isak never came off the bench!

The Battle of Premier League strikers lol

    EDIT: Ayari scored, too @bigmike

He is generally a total Partridge, but Owen is pretty right to defend himself here lol.

He'd probably be remembered as a better player if he'd also shown himself to be a better person, rather than a prize twat.

He’s an absolute clown who is hated everywhere he played because of his decisions, but that’s made people forgot how good he was. Unreal player.

It's kind of impressive that he's failed to ingratiate himself with or managed to alienate every fanbase he's associated with, whilst also never doing anything particularly egregious.

There are players who have been publicly far worse who are remembered far more fondly.

While Owen is right in what he says and should probably get more respect as a player, it feels a bit reductive to talk about Rooney in solely goal scoring terms given he offered much more all round than Owen ever did.

I was too young to analyse Owen (and football in general) when Owen was 17, but from what I can remember wasn't Owen more of a "poacher" who lived in the box? I mean, his goal v Argentina was iconic and obviously a solo effort, but most of his goals I've seen were clinical finishes. I'm not discrediting goals, of course, but it kinda supports what @AFoolsGlory is saying about Rooney being a more rounded player.

EDIT: To be pedantic, Michael, you were 18 v Argentina.

Nah, not so much. Watch the video above to see what he was like. He was just brilliant at finding a gap to slot himself and the ball through to get it into the net. To call that poaching would be unfair.

I think he was known for being lightening fast as a youngster too, so had a tendency to leave the defenders for dead, but injuries took that out of him. He was playing in an era where fast and skillful players would still get booted up in the air in our league. If he'd been born 5-10 years later, I imagine he'd have had a far more consistent career.

If he won't be making it, why is he still starting (and scoring in) qualifiers when Argentina had already qualified? Surely they'd start looking towards the future v relevantly competitive opposition? Just reading between the lines.

  25. It’s a weird quote because he’s 100% playing in it lol
