Proud of the lads though, first CL final in 22 years and we only miss out through penalties. Regardless of if they scored, I’m so proud of all of those that stepped up. Eze and Gabi XL are my fucking guys, love them regardless of if they miss a penalty or not.
Also, if I’ve learnt anything from this team, it’s that the 28/29 CL is ours at the latest. We may come second once, twice, even three times, but we NEVER come second four times in a row.
I got back from a week long trip in Spain this morning for the game (Girona for a wedding, Barcelona, San Sebastian and Bilbao) and I thought it was mental that in both Catalonia and The Basque country Real Madrid TV was so prevalent? (Also having a RM shop in the middle of La Rambla seems nuts?) What the hell is that propaganda station? It felt like GB News/Newsmax and was pretty unhinged. Surely everyone other than Madrid fans hate it? I know that there's MUTV in the UK, but that's obviously subscription based.
The more I think about it, did both teams actually just play kinda bad? Arsenal were a little lucky for their goal, although it was a gorgeous shot. PSG only score after an uncharacteristic penalty from Arsenal. Outside of that, nothing significant really happened. And yet it was a great watch. A high level stalemate.
I think Arsenal played to Arsenal’s strength (composure, defense) and it made PSG look bad, while Arsenal just looked the same (elite, mostly boring yet effective defense).
Just got home. Been a long day and the parade is tomorrow! In other news, we’re pushing on. This would be pretty good, but it means Ben White is definitely leaving, which is sad.
Yeah I think we're probably losing Martinelli, White, Nwaneri and Norgaard which are all sad in their own way. But if we improve in those areas and get better in attacking phases, that CL (finally) could be there for the taking.
Reading all these last posts I guess I am in the minority here but I think PSG were overall the better team and deserved to win. And the stats seem to be on my side. And I say that while I was rooting for Arsenal.
As a Barcelona fan, excellent stats with no open play goals is how we’ve lost many, many games over the last 15-20 years so I’ve started not really relying on those to paint a full picture.
I just mentioned the stats, because they support my general view of the game. Stats alone obviously are pretty meaningless without context.
I thought it was fairly even. The stats are exaggerated of what really happened but it’s not like Arsenal were much of a threat. Draw was the fair result. Then it was left to the randomness of penalties.
PSG had all the stats on their side, but they weren’t overly dangerous. Looking at the stats you’d expect PSG to be peppering them and making Arsenal very uncomfortable. But it didn’t really play out like that. PSG didn’t really create many good chances, never really broke the Arsenal block apart from when they won the penalty. Raya only made 3 saves and 2 of them were extremely easy saves from long range shots.
I agree with all that. I just can’t really get behind Arsenal deserved to win or Arsenal outplayed them when they had 24% possession (not saying people in here are saying that). Like, it’s hard to win if you don’t have the ball. No matter how well you defend. It was a great game but a little odd. Which makes sense for a big final. Those usually are a little weird.
Leao says he’s leaving Milan. And somehow, someway, every Spurs “ITK” immediately has info claiming Spurs are aggressively pursuing lol
I also don’t get the view that this was the worst UCL final in some time. I feel like most of the last Real Madrid wins fall into that. I also say that as someone who doesn’t like them or Arsenal at all.
