I can see both sides, really. Sheffield Wednesday's plight is very raw to fans of the game in England at the moment. Well, not if you support one of their Yorkshire rivals, but if you talk about what's going on with genuine fans of the sport then 90% of the time you'll find out that the reactions are very abject.

Now imagine watching the very obvious "lovefest" for Wrexham/Birmingham City on the TV today. Reynolds this, Brady that, "The Hollywood derby". You can understand if you've got any sense of humanity just how sickening that is, right? I mean, is there examples of this happening in American sports? To teams 157 years old?

With all that said, it's not Wrexham's fault it's them who are bearing the fruits so to speak. For comparison sake, Sheffield Wednesday's owners are worth half a billion themselves. So the irony involved in the opposite direction the clubs appear to going in shouldn't be wasted. Another owner worth half a billion could of had Wednesday in the Premier League by now.

every owner/ownership group every sports team in major sports are awful humans. Just the nature of accumulating that wealth and commodifying entertainment for profit.

I wonder if the feeling would be different if it was British actors. I suspect if Daniel Craig and Hugh Laurie bought St Albans and were doing this, it would be viewed more positively. (Also I would watch the fuck out of that)

If we’re honest, the view on Americans in general is quite low among the average European/Brit right now. Plus, fans have a pretty uneasy relationship with foreign owners right now anyway, and when you add in the Super League and several really stupid comments from the likes of Boehly, FSG, then it can’t be much of a surprise to see that kind of sentiment.

Also, I feel like I’m really showing how few films I watch with those two actors being the first to pop into my head. But who wouldn’t watch James Bond and House M.D. run an amateur football club?

I think in the case of British actors, they'd be more likely to invest in their "local" teams though right? so it'd feel more "authentic" so to speak, whereas there can be a bit of a feeling of "American owners just see a good business opportunity" (although like everyone has said, both Wrexham owners have been very good about the city and the investment in general by the looks of it), which no doubt sours the feeling even if they're doing "right" by the club/area/etc right now.

Anyone else struggling to put together an FPL team this year? Feel like there's about 15 midfielders I want, 0 forwards or anything else.

It's not a struggle if you've had pretty much every player in your drafts, is it? :crylaugh:

  8. I still don’t understand why I have to set my team before I know which of my players are actually starting. It’s always the reason I give up midway.

It doesn’t help that FPL insists that a winger is a midfielder and not a forward when Salah etc should 100% be on the forward line. He scores goals. How often is Salah playing box to box? Almost never.

FPL seems to only class players that spend most of their time in the box as forwards. So to be fair to them, they've got it right with Salah.

It's why they've shifted Bowen to FWD, as under Potter he's been moved central to play alongside Füllkrug.

This has made my morning, even though I'm aware he's a quality shot-stopper.

Would have killed for him to play like that in April, instead of pulling off about 8 super human saves.

  14. Hopefully Spurs don’t try to hijack this move. Not that I don’t like Grealish, I just like other options better.

    Eze
    Akliouche
    Paz
    McAtee
    El Khannouss
    Elliott

These are all the guys being thrown around as players we’re interested in and that I like better. And that’s the order I’d rank them. Most of this is probably journalist throwing shit at the wall knowing we need a 10. But it does give me hope that a signing is close lol

RE Eze. Just saw someone make a good point that some of the Palace players may have held on until they've played another "final" at Wembley. It's good for their reputation, etc.

I'd imagine Eze, Guehi and Munoz will decide after today.

  16. I have a weird soft spot for Palace. And looking at their lineup today, I wish they could keep this group together and add to it. But it’s probably impossible. Kinda reminds me of that strong team Southampton had in the mid 2010s. They were like almost to the point where they could regularly keep up with the European positions. Then lost a lot of good players to bigger clubs.

That Celtic fan around here must be delighted the title is wrapped up already haha.

Focus on Europe and not my hyperbole.

We go to Ibrox at the end of the month and we should be 7 points ahead because they're choosing to postpone their game for European qualification so we could potentially be 10 points ahead (with a game played more) before its September...

Please buy players and give Europe a right go.

  19. This is where I’ve landed for my fantasy squad. I’ve never invested this heavily on defenders but I kinda love it.

No Salah or Haaland is wild. Respect it, but wild.

I remember joking we should have a no Salah or Haaland rule just to see what squads we’d build last year, I think.

Sheffield Wednesday just almost took the lead against Leicester. If they even come close to a result, it will be a miracle.

  25. Arm out away from body, makes contact with ball, that contact affects the attackers ability to control the ball. Clear handball.
