Got one eye on the Ireland game, too, and all I've got to say is that it doesn't require two lol. Still willing a goal for Ireland, though...

 

Didn’t realise how tight Ireland’s group is outside of Portugal. A goal for them would be massive.

 

England has had the easiest group and I both love it and hate it. We tend to just breeze through qualifying and then (until recently - sort of) aren't ready for the games that matter. Southgate did take them far, but the performances once the tournaments started were barely electric. For once, I'd love a challenge and the opportunity to build a more cohesive and overall best 11 much further in advance by having to because we were facing quality opponents. Qualifying is always just whatever experimental 11 is picked and they breeze through. That's great, but lets be real, they can't just field the in form 11 against Spain / France / Germany / Argentina etc.

Tbf, when you add in transfer debts and wages owed, it must be MUCH higher. Especially given they have barely any income right now.

 

A very sensible decision. I lived minutes from
Villa Park between 2012/2013. As an area, it can most politely be described as fucking rough. Northern Birmingham as a whole is generally the more impoverished side.

It’s also, like much of Birmingham, very diverse, with large Muslim and Jewish populations. The last thing that community needs is these divisions being stoked.

 

Absolutely love the Spain players union for standing up against this proposed Barca vs Villarreal game in Miami. Think we’re going to see a real boiling point number of games in the calendar and expanded international tournaments.

"I came to the Premier League two years ago and I took over at Tottenham, I was told by the chairman [Daniel Levy] that this club has to win a trophy. He said we've tried to bring winners in: Jose [Mourinho], Antonio Conte, and it hasn't worked. We need something different. I was slightly offended by that because I see myself as winner.

"I took over Spurs who finished eighth. Massive club, but no European football, and one that can't go two years without European football. We finished fifth in my first year and every time Harry Kane scores a goal [for Bayern after leaving Spurs] I go, 'I wish he stayed just one more year'. It would have been handy to have him after finishing fifth.

"But somehow that [first] year has disappeared from the record books. It was even used as a reason for me losing my job because even Tottenham decided to exclude the first ten games. Yet the first ten games here [at Forest] are important apparently.

"But anyway, we finished fifth. I got them back into European football, which is where a club like Tottenham should be. Then I was in [post-season] meetings and was told we need a trophy because it will mean everything to the football club. That's fine.

"We win a trophy. We shed the tag of being 'Spursy'. [We get] Champions League football, which brings some rewards and the opportunity to bring greater players. But all I have heard since I finished at Tottenham is that we finished 17th last year.

"So if you look at it through the prism of finishing 17th, then I am a failed manager who is lucky to get another opportunity. But again, if I have to explain why we finished 17th, it's really basic. It doesn't have to be too in-depth.

"Just look at the last five or six team sheets of last season to see what I prioritised [the Europa League], and who was on the bench. And the last game against Brighton, the players were out partying for two days, which I sanctioned because I felt they deserved to. So yes we finished 17th. But if people think that's a reflection of me and my coaching then again, I think they are looking at it through the prism of I just don't fit.

"So we get to the current space [at Forest] where there is a different story to tell, that maybe I am not a failed manager who was lucky to get this job and instead maybe I am a manager who, if you give him time, the story always ends the same. At all my previous clubs, [it ends] with me and a trophy."

 

I really get his perspective. I mean, it’s been said a million times…but we were decimated by injuries for most of the season. Once we had guys return, it was late in the season and he prioritized Europa. Which you can’t argue was a bad decision once we won lol

It’s such a weird case. He simultaneously did a poor job and a great job lol

If he applied the same tactics in the PL games as he did in Europa, we would’ve finished much higher than 17th, even with the injuries. The failure to do that resulted is a truly embarrassing run of league performances.

 

Feel for Ange, but I told someone earlier I think he'll be sacked come this time tomorrow if he doesn't get a result v Chelsea.

Agree, and Ange should have known that before getting into bed with him.

If he did, and did it anyway, then it's tough for me to feel sorry for him being sacked.

If he didn't know, then that's embarrassing because it means he didn't do enough research on his own to understand who his boss will be in his next job which again makes it tough for me to feel sorry for him.

 

I’m pretty sure they’re friends. So he had to know.
