I'm pretty certain he signed a new contract this week that is yet to be announced. There was some filming the other day that meant they closed the stadium for a day, and talks of it being contract related.

 

Also, no offence to Barca but why on earth would he go there now? They have no money, two high-profile court cases hanging over them (SL & Negreira), they are in a less high profile league, and he wouldn't get any of the control and trust he has at Arsenal.

This isn't a comment about this player specifically (he could be the next Messi for all I know,) but more Barca's finances in general and this post reminded me of it.

Is there a reason that Barca's finances can't be sorted, or helped, through player sales? It might be through gritted teeth, but would spending 1 or 2 years selling assets not get them on the right path? Not even big names (though surely De Jong bringing in £80m+ would help), but going the Chelsea route of selling youth like this guy for £7m here and there. Surely they're not in the position to be turning down good money for academy players?

 

I think they’re realizing they can’t sign anyone and thus accelerating youth team players. I think there might be 6-8 senior players whose contract expires this upcoming summer.

I would expect sales of one of Raphinha/Torres (Torres is the better player this season, but that doesn’t mean anything) and probably a center back.

 

This Cape Verde vs Mauritania game is great. Somehow didn’t realise the Cape Verde centre back is from Dublin even though I’ve seen him play live multiple times here hah.

He’s been out injured and having his minutes managed all season due to the back injury. Surely they would have known about that before doing a medical. The cartilage is another thing though.

 

No serious club signs him with those. You don’t spend that money on a player with unresolved back and knee issues.
