feels like both the obviously correct and obviously incorrect decision at the same time. how do the Spurs fans in here feel about it now that it's happened?

  5. Figured this was coming the longer we went without any news. As I’ve stated here many times, I really don’t know how to feel about it. It’s so rare that both sides have a strong argument haha

But the more I think about it, my biggest reason for wanting him to stay is to keep Romero at the club. He has made it fairly known that his future with the club could be tied to Ange’s status. I think he will be really hard to replace. However, if that’s my main reason, it probably does not out-weight all of the bad.

His reasoning for the poor league form makes sense on paper, but it was a truly terrible run. Over a long stretch of time as well. The injuries were bad for sure. But it doesn’t excuse how sloppy and elementary we looked at times. Honesty, that’s how we looked more often than not. Even if it’s backup players, we shouldn’t look that unorganized. I’ve said before, I think we have a strong squad and despite being a young squad, the results do not match the talent available for the manager. Adding some better structure to the tactics will benefit the squad and should produce better and more consistent results.

That said, Ange had a strong relationship with the locker room. I worry this won’t go over too well and whoever comes in will already be facing an uphill battle from the start. However, these guys are professional and they’ve likely been through this before. So it might be awkward at first, but it’s the manager’s job to win them over and sell them on his tactics and plans.

Thomas Frank seems like the obvious hire based on what I’m seeing. I don’t think his style of play will require us to change the current strategy we’ve been using in the windows. We have a young team that should be able to adapt to his tactics fairly easily.

  6. He simply lost too many games. You can’t set the club record for league losses and then be surprised you didn’t keep your job. It sucks because I liked him and I wish it would’ve worked out. But it’s hard for me to be mad about it.

All jokes aside, it’s very obviously the right decision and therefore I don’t like it.

  9. I will say, the people against Frank because “he’s never had to handle that many competitions at this level” or whatever…we just saw what Ange looked like when trying to juggle Europe and domestic runs. He, admittedly, completely abandoned one side. I get the reasoning for doing so, but it is extremely concerning haha

I love Frank, so I hope he’s able to do well with spurs. Hopefully would put a large dent in brentford’s ability to match Brighton’s improvements.

I’m bummed. I totally get it but it still sucks. The trophy definitely masked a lot of the big issues, and the board obviously sees that.

I hope whoever is next can keep some positive momentum going and right the ship overall. We gotta stop burning through managers like this.

I'd be pissed as a Tottenham fan. A fan and locker room favorite fired after one off year (with a lot happening out of his control) and yet he still managed to win a European trophy during it. It's widespread across all sports, and a lot of it is obviously money justifying it, but continuity is just gone and there's no evidence it's a benefit unless it's the richest of the rich rotating prime managers.

  16. Definitely prefer Frank over Silva.

The other name I’ve seen loosely rumored that I like is Xavi. But that has gone very quiet.

  17. Since the really hot start in his first 10 games as manager, we’ve lost 34 out of 66 games. That is a big enough sample size to be concerned, even with all the injuries. He brought us a trophy and that’s something he’ll be remembered for. But we just saw United keep ETH after winning a trophy despite the overall data telling everyone he needed to go. And he was sacked halfway through the season.

I’ve been back and forth on it, but it makes sense.

Not sure your point about the money justifying it. It’s going to cost the club a lot of money to fire him and hire a new guy.

better to go out as hero with a trophy over getting axed in November, which seems way more likely than not considering everything we’ve seen about Ange’s Spurs over two league campaigns

1.16 points per game after the hot start last season, just way way way too bad

I see the “he hasn’t lost the dressing room, the players like him” comment everywhere. How bad are results allowed to be if the players like you? Do the players like losing every week (though tbf they have their own role in that re: effort)?

I still think Levy is more of an issue (that unfortunately can’t be remedied) but also that a different manager gets way more out of this group than Ange would on a week to week basis

  19. I’m sure there was a little bit of complacency to it with the players, but I think Ange is just a very charismatic guy and someone that people are easily drawn to. The father-figure type of leader. Which is nice and all. But winning is what ultimately matters.

While I tended to like Ange as a personality, it’s probably good for this group of players to have a manager who isn’t such a lightning rod for media attention. When you know your manager is going to get all the heat all the time, it (almost certainly subconsciously) lets the players sleepwalk through matches. The players know their poor performance won’t be making headlines, it’ll be Ange and his job security and how many more weeks can this go on and etc

Obviously, manager as shield to protect players can be really good at times—generally you’d prefer your manager to shoulder all criticism, and playing 2-3x/week with a depleted squad is going to produce sluggish performances at times. But I do think there’s a genuine possibility of benefit here where the players know it could be them facing the heat and not Ange

the ten Hag situation playing out how it did is a pretty good example for Levy to potentially learn from a mistake someone else made
