The good news for Atleti is that Sergio Ramos isn’t there to bail Madrid out with a bullet header before Ronaldo scores a nothing time surety goal and takes all the praise.

the bad news is it’s still Madrid and they’ve got weird UCL voodoo

That is not a conclusive second touch at all.

Yea... I have never seen anything like that before and it's almost like you've got to go with the spirit of the rule and what's conclusive. It had no advantage whatsoever to the kick going in and to me, you can't tell it actually happened. Kudos to whoever on Madrid alerted for a check but what a wild ending.

Courtois added: "For UEFA, it's clear. I'm sick of this victimhood, always crying about things like this. Referees don't want to benefit one team or another in Spain or in Europe, for them it was clear. With the technology, in the VAR room they saw it clearly, they have a lot of cameras and a lot of images."

There are now some angles out there that show it very clearly as a double touch but it still feels harsh based on what the rule is meant to prevent, and then something like this. But hey, that's football... very distinct lines and no 'up to interpretation' anymore.

I think it’s definitely a double touch, but I think it’s stupid that it’s counted as an automatic miss, when a keeper coming off his line is only a retake.

Oh good another dodgy penalty against a Spanish team. That should never be a penalty, he’s never ever getting to the ball first

Oh yeah, oh yeah, everything is terrible.

death, taxes, and shady pens given to Sociedad vs United

I simply do not believe fouls should be given for a striker sticking his foot between a defender and the ball from behind. It’s incredibly unfair on defenders that attackers can ignore the ball completely and win penalties.

Agreed. Sadly it is always given.

Yeah i remember a couple of seasons ago, maybe last season, Gordon won two of them while being about two yards away from the ball. It’s so frustrating that referees don’t see an issue with it.

Goalkeepers allowed to straight up assault people now then?

This ref is a fucking joke. They’re going to get frees every time they drop to the ground aren’t they
