I was trying to describe myself to someone

Chelsea may not have a toxic dressing room as such (although, it wasn't exactly pretty post-Tuchel), but Poch took over a team being run by a lunatic, who piled the dressing room with expensive young players and expected magic.

I also don't agree he isn't a project manager as a blanket statement. How was Spurs not a project? His tenure at Southampton was short, but impressive too.

Whether he can turn Chelsea around is another matter, but I wonder if anyone could have made sense of that mess this year.

  2. I don’t necessarily disagree with the part about Poch. I guess what I was trying to say, he is taking job with high expectations. That combined with him now having a good amount of experience with big clubs, I don’t think it’s unfair to have high expectations for him pretty early on into his tenure.

  3. But I guess it does kinda go in-line with my other post about him. He is taking jobs with immediate expectations, even if they aren’t actually ready for immediate results. And he is likely better suited to takeover a young team to develop.

So maybe I do agree with you haha

To clarify, none of what I was saying was about Poch as a manager. It’s more that the situations are very difficult and simply giving Poch time won’t fix anything without greater work being done.

perhaps ETH would be a better example.

Man, I feel old now. That Lozano goal in 2018 v Germany is still etched in my mind.

  8. Is Tuchel definitely out at Bayern?

I went and looked at their point total compared to previous seasons. If they win their 3 remaining game, it’ll be the most points they’ve reached since the 20/21 season. They’re in CL semi-finals and I think they have a good chance of winning it. Are things really bad enough to sack him? I know not winning the league is a disappointment, but they aren’t actually doing worse than they typical do in the league. There’s just a juggernaut to compete with this year.

Feels like that’d be two managers in a row they pre-maturely let go.

I’m curious to see season 2 of Ange. I think he’s done a fairly good job so far, but it also comes at a time when a lot of clubs seem to be in turmoil

offensively, we look so much better than the Jose/Conte years, so that’s helped from a pure watchability standpoint. But there are still glaring issues that I hope he can work on and address. Defensively we seem to just rely on players being superstars as opposed to any true set scheme. Set pieces are a nightmare offensively and defensively. We have got to improve the midfield to really play the style Ange wants, and we really need someone up front that can drive them forward and score (which is maddening because Kane in this system would’ve done wonders).

Overall I’m happy with his first season, but do have some question marks on him that I hope he proves wrong.

  10. I don’t think we have a 6 that fits what he wants out of that role. Which probably explains why he’s been shuffling the midfield behind Maddison around a little bit. It also probably explains why we look sloppy defensively in transition. I’d expect that DM and ST will be the priorities in the summer.

I saw something today about his time at Celtic. His first season they were pretty bad at set pieces and by year two they had greatly improved in that area. I have no clue why this is a thing. But it has to improve next year. Vicario needs to stop being pushed around so easily. And our players need to actually mark someone.

It really shouldn't be a thing imo. The difference between the Premier League and SPL is like day and night. I mean, I could genuinely hold my own against the likes of Livingston. I guess what I'm trying to ultimately say is not to expect a similar improvement next season. i get the sense you're being hypothetical here, though.

  12. I worded it kinda poorly, my bad.

I was meaning, I don’t know why it’s something we’re having to deal with. Or something that is a trend for him. And it’s something he will have to improve on with Spurs or it will be very hard to contend with the top teams. It will result us dropping games that we have no business dropping.

And I do expect improvement. Just because there has to be haha it’s hard to be much worse.

Tuchel being out is definitely the right decision. Yes, the point total is there and losing the league is largely due to an otherworldly performance by Leverkeusen. But Tuchel has never clicked with the players, has outwardly criticized some of the biggest leaders on the team, and as Uli Hoeness has pointed out, has no interest or patience in developing relationships and players. Just buy new ones, which isn’t a model that will keep Bayern towards the top of Europe. They need players like Musiala, Pavlovic, Stanisic, etc to take the next step.

nagelsmann was premature, but it’s never premature to let go of a coach you should have never hired in the first place.
