Football/soccer fans talk about officiating more than any sport I’ve ever watched.

Gvardiol is playing so well lately. Ridiculously good for his age.

    GG Forest, you tried

  5. Romero really did have a great game. And I get what Ange is saying here. I don’t think we played with a lackluster attitude like we have in the past. The effort was there. Just some poor performances from guys who are suppose to be leaders on the team. Son and Maddison specifically. We aren’t getting enough from them game to game.

It's great that he's angry as he has every right to be. @SamLevi11 touched on it twice already, Spurs have had two weeks off. If that performance is all moat of the XI can serve up...

  8. I guess so. Like, definitely should’ve played better. But it’s not like we got battered. We made mistakes on two corners. They made mistakes on our two goals. It washes out. The difference was the part I’ve been annoying everyone about. And honestly, it’s not just the no call that caused it. We were lazy getting back and Saka got to beat Davies 1v1 which will happen every time.

I’d argue neither team played particularly great. The time-off thing I get being a talking point but a long layoff isn’t always an advantage. Sometimes it’s better to have momentum going and to be coming off another big win. I didn’t think it’d be a factor coming into the game and it didn’t seem to be throughout.

Edit: especially in a big rivalry game. Even if guys are tired they’ll find a way to give a strong effort.

Fair, I don’t watch the NBA so that’s like the one popular sport I can’t speak to.

  11. But it’d make sense for basketball and soccer to have more complaints with officiating than most other sports. They’re both fairly non-stop play where majority of contact isn’t allowed. The non-stop aspect naturally brings contact into play. And when there is contact it sometimes be subjective whether it’s ruled one a foul or not. And basically any contact can bring controversy.

American football obviously has contact lol but it’s mostly allowed. And play is so stop and start, it’s a little less hectic. Hockey is non-stop action, but like American football, contact is allowed and the penalties can be a little more obvious.

I just spent too much time thinking about this lol

Gibbs-White, Elanga, and Hudson-Odoi are all such fun players though.

  14. Do you think Gibbs-White is good enough for a “big club”? He’s another name that’s being linked to Spurs. And while I like him as a player, part of me wonders if he’s good enough if our goal is to compete for a title.

As a squad player, I think so. As a starter I'd say no, not for a side aiming for a title.

Ya, Gibbs-White has shown he's got different gears in his career so far (he was once a Wolves reject) but I don't think he's ever going to deliver titles.

  19. I know I’ve complained about the pen/non-pen, but I promise the following isn’t a complaint. More of a genuine question about the rules.

On the disallowed goal, there is the initial shot that was blocked by Tomiyasu and then deflected backwards, and then it falls right into vvd path for an easy goal.

The block was deliberate and it caused the ball to go away from goal. Is a block considered a deflection in this instance, even though it was a deliberate attempt? Meaning the offside from the moment of that shot still applies?

So if it’s a deflection, it still goes from the initial pass or shot. Same with if a shot is saved and is then followed up by another player.

Anything else would mean you could stand offside and hope for a deflection

  21. My confusion was more if it matters whether or not the block was intentional or not. But I guess if it’s considered a deflection either way, it doesn’t matter.

Good way to shut up some absolutely classless chanting from the Spurs fans.

I bet he enjoyed the goal too.
