Or De Brunye, who has been better on an individual level than every member of that Liverpool team across the season?

Apparently this award takes in off field criteria (as opposed to the PFA one which is only onfield). Which probably explains why Rashford finished 3rd.

But still, bit of a joke really.

Just confirmed that football media in the UK love them some Liverpool.

I mean, in reality I think it was always going to be a Liverpool player. They were so frighteningly consistently great until they actually won the league.

De Bruyne has been fantastic but I understand them having gone for a Liverpool player personally.

    hmmm

Football Writers POTY is always voted on for the story more than anything else. England captain and much-criticised replacement for Gerrard at Liverpool is a better 'moral' victory than anyone else.

  5. I hope we use Kane in a false 9 going forward. His passing has gotten so good. I almost want to say it has potential to be better than his striking haha plus I think Son and Bergwijn would excel crashing in for opportunities.

Aren’t there like two seasons where both Barcelona and Madrid broke 100 points in the same season? Seems like all those players might qualify for that stat too

No idea. Thought it was interesting though. Will say the twitter user is a Liverpool fan though.

If that's the case then Rashford should have won it. Helped others. Not just the elite.

Bruno will have played 80 games in a row by the time our season is over next year...

Lol absolutely no chance. Just because the stadium has been brought up, if anyone ever gets the chance to go to the new Spurs stadium I highly highly recommend it. Absolutely incredible structure. It's so modern, just breathtaking walking out and seeing the inside for the first time. I went for the NFL but I bet it's bouncing when Spurs are playing in a big game.

If we get CL on Sunday, we’ve got to go 2nd team in the EL. Running the first team into the ground for a chance to get a trophy in this hypothetical scenario would be grounds for dismissal, imo.

Sad but true. Ole will put him out there on crutches if need be

Nah Ole is going to go all out. FA Cup and EL are his last chances at trophies this season. We’ve seen what happened with the FA Cup. He’s going to go all out to win the EL.

If you think Henderson winning that award is something, you should see the mural painted for him outside Anfield. OTT? OTT.

Yeah I was going to comment this. You just get the impression Ole is desperate for a trophy. To prove the doubters wrong or something I guess? Or to signal the start of a new era? But he seems to be gagging for one.

    Nah. Fair.

Dude just captained Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years. If that was Arsenal, he'd probably be getting a statue.

    Ha, touche.

I guess I think murals should strictly be for absolute icons of the game, whether that's due to trophies won, record appearances, record goals scored, etc. I know it's a first title after 30 years for Liverpool but he'll never be in the same equation as Shankley, Dalglish, etc.

  24. AFoolsGlory

I think it's hard evaluating people's place in history whole it's still happening though. For example, Liverpool are a team that values it's history and it's story. The captain of the team that brought them back to the top after 30 years? That fits. Add in what might become a couple of Champions Leagues over the next few years, maybe another League title or international success? Be hard to argue with him being in that company.

Though, for what it's worth, I think Van Dijk and Klopp will probably be remembered over him when it's all said and done.

I would have given my POTY vote to De Bruyne if I was a journalist, but I am happy Henderson won it. Kind of in the same way I was happy when Modric won the Ballon D'or the other year; everyone was pulling out stats to show how much "better" Ronaldo was that season or whatever, but it is good to recognise just how much Modric contributed to Real Madrid/Croatia's success that year even though it's not as obvious as Ronaldo's goals.

Same with Liverpool; world class players in most positions on the pitch, Henderson is not one of them but still plays an absolutely massive role whatever way you look at it. And he's far better at the game than most give him credit for too!
