Last plug. First deadline of the season is tonight at 18:30 (GMT) due to the season opener between Burnley and Man City. I'm assuming every man and his dog will have Haaland captain

 

I’ve toiled over this literally for weeks lmao but you just can’t not have him with the captain, because if he goes off you’re immediately sunk.

 

Agreed. I mean, there may be a time and place during the season when you can captain someone else, but overthinking things this early into the season is asking for trouble.

That said, apparently Rashford's home form was better than Haaland's away form last season so some are advocating Rashford for the captaincy v Wolves. Interesting strategy for those folks, and part of me hopes it pays off for them for thinking outside the box!

 

Still not a huge fan of him but Mount is looking like a bargain now lol. £110 million is absolutely fucking insane.

I toyed with a rogue Mitoma captain for their home game vs Luton, but week 1 is when you need to play it safe.

Brighton continuing to prove themselves maybe the shrewdest operators in the league. Bought Caicedo for £4m in 2021, didn't play him until 2022 and sell him in 2023 for £111m. There's a 20% sell on clause, but that's still amazing business to turn aroud something in the region of £85m.

I knew he was highly regarded, but £111m.... Jesus Liverpool.

 

There was also a good few issues with signing him in the first place. United were heavily heavily interested in him at the time but didn’t have the experience dealing with multiple ownership. Brighton had that experience after buying a couple of players from South America under tough circumstances and were able to use that to pip ahead and sign him. I thought they’d be laughing to the bank with 70m. But 110m is insane.

 

I mean, it's a major signing of a player in a position and of a quality that was needed, and if it works out, it'll be a transformative signing to the extent that people won't talk about the fee that much. Potentially our best midfield since Mascherano/Alonso/Gerrard.

Still, £110m. That's eye-watering.

 

I'm not trying to hammer Liverpool or the player for the price. I think we're already well past the point where you can easily see the correlation between the price of a player and their quality. That one just feels so out of the blue for a player who I know is well regarded, but who I haven't seen hyped as being like a massive superstar. That might well be ignorance on my part, but £100m for a youngster is a place I thought only the really obvious superstars were (people like Haaland and Bellingham).

If he ends up playing for Liverpool for 5-10 years as a world class player and they win trophies, it'll look like money very well spent.

 

I feel good for Independiente del Valle. They must be set for a few years (a decade even?) with that 20%.

 

Props to United for organising an anti-Greenwood protest. I hate to bring the wanker up again but hopefully it will educate a few.

God yeah Caicedo is a cracking player and a great signing. But yeah, I include Rice in this too £100m plus for players that aren’t top tier attacking talents is not something I foresaw coming. I realise United played a part in this with Maguire but even still, it’s insane.

 

I presume it will still go through but feck me this has been a weird week for transfers. Can’t wait to see him at Stamford Bridge this weekend with a half and half scarf on.
