How is one of the biggest and most popular clubs in the world strapped for cash? Especially after dumping Ronaldo's wages.

 

I've read his release clause is 120m.

 

United have spent (read - wasted) hundreds of millions over the last decade, whilst routinely missing out on the Champions League and having little sporting success. They don't get any owner investment, and have just committed to a huge stadium renovation/ rebuild and training facilities upgrades. At the same time, their commercial pull is falling the further away from the clubs in pitch success that we get. They've also been paying crazy wages to bit part players and have made very, very little from player sales.

Any club in world football would struggle. They're in a really perilous situation - not like going bust, but their finances are not great.

Which is why the links to Enzo and his £120m release clause are hilarious. No way can they even begin to afford it. Hell, they've been told they can only afford loans in January.

 

There’s a reason the Glazers want to sell now. The well is running dry, and with the desperate need for investment in Old Trafford, they don’t want to spend any of their own money on the club.
