Why do they bring in the number of NT caps when talking about a club move?

 

To remind people that he has been a very good player at times, I would guess.

Kind of shocked he's going out to the MLS. He looked great for West Ham when he was there.

 

It’s absolutely bonkers that he’d go to the MLS, no offence to yanks. I assumed he’d try his best to stay in England with the World Cup coming up. Maybe he’s just asking for too much money for the level of teams that would be interested in him, maybe he thought an Aaron Ramsey style contract was available.


Either way his advisors or himself have made an absolute balls of his career the last 18 months. Turning down West Ham and Newcastle when we were would have sold him, then asking to leave when it would have been impossible to let him go.

 

Moving to the MLS would kill his England NT career dead.

He should honestly just go to West Ham, Everton, someone of that mid table calibre where he'll be an important player in a team pushing for ECL or cup runs.

 

Why are you mentioning Everton and Europe/cup runs in the same sentence?

 

His advisor is his grandfather (if he's not changed that since he was younger). I can definitely see them discussing the biggest contract they can get, they are those kind of people if you know what I mean. Big egotists.

 

I mean, at the same time, he's what, 29? I don't really blame him for chasing the biggest contract he can get. Probably his last chance.

Being the biggest fish (so to speak) in a small pond might be good for him anyway. If he performs at his West Ham level, or even his brief appearances for United last year, he'll be at worst a very good player in that league. Maybe that's what he needs.

he's definitely got the energy in addition to skill to do well there. I just thought a spot in the world cup would be important to him. I don't really see Southgate watching MLS games to scout him for a spot.
