That Matip goal was shocking from a Leeds POV.

It's such an obvious move too. Bielsa will be well aware of it. I remember Guardiola doing it against Bielsa ten years ago in a game between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao - whichever Barca centre back was spare took the ball into midfield and forced one of Bielsa's midfielders to leave their assigned player to press him. Once that happened there was space in the middle.

It ended up being Struick who stepped out on the Matip goal. He shouldn't really get beat but he didn't have any cover either. Without Phillips to slow the game down and give them a chance to recover, or Bamford as a target man to receive and bring players into play, Leeds spend most of the time against the top teams running and chasing without any control.

 

This game was delayed because of field conditions and I think the field might be worse today
