Can't help but think that if that challenge made on Wilson had been made on an Arsenal forward, it would have been a penalty.

There's a decent enough squad here to survive, but Howe has a lot of stuff to fix to do so. We've looked very timid for a lot of this game. Complete loss of confidence any time we get near Ramsdale.

Defence looks crap as well. Kraft in particular isn't good enough and I don't even know if we have a true left back.

 

Newcastle's next two games are Burnley and Norwich. Desperately need wins against both to get to new year with any sort of hope. Lose to them and we're buried.

 

Truly bizarre chat on BT after the game. Peter Walton said it wasn't a penalty, because the contact was shoulder to shoulder and that's a legal challenge. Personally, when the force is behind the attacking player, not sure that a fair challenge but I'm not a referee so whatever.

However, when asked if VAR would have overturned it if the ref gave it, he said no. He said VAR wouldn't have had enough evidence to say the ref had made a clear and obvious error.

How on earth can both be true? I reckon I've got a better chance of predicting the state of Shrodinger's cat than understanding VAR...

Good game today, although I think I lost feeling in my toes.

Weirdly, when Martinelli came on I said "Here he comes, he'll score", and he did with what I think was his first or second touch. He needs more game time, I'd maybe start him up top.

Newcastle were predictably shite, but honestly from my perspective they should have had a penalty.

 

The kit clash here is awful on top of the fact I hate full lavender kits. Adding to that the ad board are all purple and lavender too. It’s shocking to look at.
