    More like 7-2-1.

Ole isn’t getting sacked until we lose out on top 4, don’t worry. Either way, there are no managers available so we would probably have to wait until another sacking or the summer.

I don’t see City backing off like Liverpool did. Especially since we don’t have Pogba to come on to perform a hatchet job

De Gea single handedly keeping us in the game.

Interesting stat there, Sigurdsson at number two.

Don’t see him adding any more to that anytime soon lol

So what exactly is United's tactical plan here with this formation?

Don’t think anyone knows. We beat a diabolical Spurs team with it and have been utter shite in it against Atalanta and here today.

Took me a good 10 seconds to realise a goal had even been scored, I thought it went wide?!

I’d put that on Maguire to be honest. He let it go right by him and held his hands out. De Gea screamed “AWAY” and Maguire still decided to leave it. He’s the fucking captain, listen to your keeper.

It just doesn't seem to be suited for a match against an opponent of this quality. Like no reason any club should be treating City the same way you'd treat Spurs and Atalanta.

And it seems like the United players aren't certain of the way they are set up. Fred and Scott seem unsure of who exactly to mark and when exactly to mark them. There have been some positive presses but otherwise the whole squad just seems to be jogging back and forth waiting for City to make an errant pass.

“Kept it close boys, well done. This time two weeks ago we were 4-0 down. That’s progress, WE GO AGAIN!!”

not much more we can do to defend if the manager doesn’t want to coach them how to defend. 7 defensive players on the pitch, still can’t stop them from creating east chances.

Because they’re playing in the wrong position. There is no world where McTominay should be playing as the deepest midfielder but that’s just fucking Ole things isn’t it. He’s a box to box player, but nah Ole decides he’s a holding midfielder, while Fred is right there!

Ok, that makes me feel a little better about my observations.

And as a side note, if anyone hasn't already realized, my observations should always be taken lightly and with the implied request to be corrected lol

This is partly to my point earlier. City are good, sure. But United should have enough quality to be set up so that their opponents aren't able to move the ball around like this.

    hmmm

Chelsea's formation vs City under Tuchel hasn't been dissimilar. Difference is the level of coaching, movement and actual tactics within it. United's back five very passive, no positioning, no aggressive tracking into midfield, no understanding of how to transition. Easiest thing in the world for City to switch play and swamp United's narrow shape when they lose the ball. Neville's correct on commentary - the inability of the centre backs to be set at the near post is poor.

No one at the upper echelons at United can understand football surely; it's so obvious how under-coached they are and still Solksjaer has a job.

No you’re absolutely spot on. It’s how we are every single game though, this isn’t any different to how we play against poorer teams. The formation could work, it’s not far off how Tuchel set up. The biggest difference comes from the fact our players don’t look like they have a clue what to do. The players are playing in roles that either don’t suit them, or they haven’t been coached into knowing what to do in that role and we just don’t work hard enough.

For example City had a chance earlier in the game, AWB is playing right wing back, he very slowly stepped up to cover Cancelo but left Foden. Not one of the three centre halves noticed AWB moving up, so they didn’t shift over. Gave City an easy ball down the channel to Foden who was in behind the defence. If your RWB is stepping up like that the right centre back should be covering him at the very least.

and there we go. We’ve given up on the 5-3-2 again. Just like Atalanta.
