Think a similar link to this got posted yesterday, so sorry for repeating if so.

Premier League clubs v Newcastle: inside the stunning emergency vote

What the hell are the PL doing around this deal? I don't disagree with blocking these dodgy sponsorship deals as a general case, but why have they waited for Newcastle's ownership change to act so aggressively about it? Why didn't they deal with it after City started doing some questionable deals? Where were the questions when the Everton and Leicester owners arrived?

This whole thing is just a complete disaster. Whole situation is really souring football for me now. I already don't want anything to do with Newcastle any more, but now I'm not really fancying much to do with the PL either. None of this feels good for the sport.

Totally agree. I'm no fan of the dodgy sponsorships in general, or the Newcastle takeover, but the whole thing reeks of lifting the ladder up after themselves by clubs like Everton, Leicester, Chelsea. Least City had the balls to vote against it (even if geo-politics probably played into that a bit).

They didn't vote against, they abstained because they felt it was shaky legal ground, as it looks like the PL clubs are behaving like a cartel. Because they are...

Also, where the fuck were the PL when Ashley was plastering his brands all over everything in the ground and paying nothing for it? :crylaugh:

It's kind of ridiculous how the "Newcastle fans had unrealistic expectations for Bruce and gave him a hard time" narrative has taken hold so firmly. He took a team that finished in the top 10 twice, had them score less and concede more, and dragged us into the relegation battle every year he was in charge. All while blaming literally anyone but himself while the players took to ignoring him and talking to the first-team coach instead.

But pundits stuck up for him because he's a "good old-fashioned English manager". It's infuriating.

  12. Why isn’t Valverde getting looked at by some of these clubs?

Y'know, I'd seen something about him online today and started wondering whether he'd be a good fit for United or not. Hadn't seen his name mentioned in ages, but apparently he was very highly rated in previous jobs and got a bit of a bad hand dealt at Barca.

  14. Yeah, I’m not like 100% sold he’s a great manager, but it’s not like he was bad at Barca. They weren’t winning every trophy which is their standard but they had good teams during his time there. And they’ve seemed to get worse and worse since he left.

Valverde should not have been fired (a big reason Messi pulled the eject button on Bartomeu). He'd be an excellent steadying of the ship hire for a team in chaos or a good moving forward hire for some clubs as well.

Valverde is who I wanted at Spurs. He’s going to be a good hire for a team IMO

Apparently there's going to be a World Cup A and a World Cup B, too. I can't believe the likes of Infantino are qualified.

I mean 2026 is all of North America and they previously did Korea/Japan. I could see more things like Scandinavia and things hosting world cups. The idea of having two world cups is dumb though.
