I would accept that if we signed a midfielder. It won’t and we won’t.

I presume what we're doing is waiting for Rice next year similar to waiting for Sancho. The down side of that is our midfield hasn't grown since last year. We brought Amad in who got a few appearances. Elanga got a few but we made do with Rashford on the right at times who isn't that much of a drop off and still turned up with some big assists. But midfield is a huge issue, especially if Fred goes to Brazil. We're missing McTominay for a few weeks, and any further injury to him means we're playing Matic, whose legs are gone, or Pogba, who simply cannot play in midfield in the Premier League. VDB is MIA and probably won't play much this season because Ole doesn't rate him.

It's absolute madness that the club is leaving us in such a position that one injury could completely derail our season.

I'm really surprised Garner was allowed to go on loan given how anemic our midfield options are.

The fact that Martial and Lingard are going to end the window staying at the club is kinda embarrassing to be honest. Spending the whole window trying to get £25m for Lingard, instead of just accepting maybe a lower fee is for the best and actually being able to reinvest it.

 

I'd have kept James and sold Martial in an ideal world to be honest. Though James is probably worth more than Martial right now due to how much Leeds wanted him.

Absolutely. I think the Stone tweet this morning was very telling, with a line about the James fee being used to balance the books after Ronaldo's arrival.

In an ideal world for squad balance, I'd have kept James and binned off Martial to whoever would take him. But that would probably only be a loan and would involve having to cover a lot of his wages so would bring no real income at all. James is one of the few players we had that held actual value.

 

Cavani to Barcelona is great. He’ll do well there.

Dortmund added some CB depth by bringing in Marin Pongracic on loan from Wolfsburg. Apparently he'll he straight into training. Positive steps toward stabilizing that back line. Now hoping for the miraculous to happen and somehow squeeze in a RB.
