Yeah this is mental. The president is completely at blame here and his actions have served to ramp up the small minority of idiot fans into a complete frenzy.

Now the club could miss out on 100m+ of transfer fees and possibly even be relegated because of this.

Where's best to read about this? The article above was just a short news summary and doesn't really touch on the president or potential of relegation.

  4. My transfer wishlist:

    Martial or Pulisic
    de Ligt
    Sessegnon
    Lemina

    Mine is much simpler:

    Keep Rafa
    Buy players (good ones)

So it's looking like Hart and Wilshere will miss out on the world cup squad. Apparently Livermore will be on the injury cover list

    well there was this:
Sporting Lisbon president suspends 19 players after social media spat

    Then this:
Sporting Lisbon players and staff attacked by intruders at training ground

Basically the chairman Bruno De Carvalho rose to power because Sporting is in a massive slump and hasn't won the league for like 15 years. He is basically Sporting's Donald Trump, he rose on a wave of anger and as a former ultra, he had hardline support anyway. There have multiple calls for him to resign but he won't.

Since getting in, he has been making stupid statements and going on the offensive constantly, particularly in the wake of the Benfica scandal that is being investigated. After they lost to Atletico in the first leg of their Europa QF 2-0, he called the team stupid and said they were disgraces and so on (see first link). the team hit back and then he threatened to suspend 19 of the first team squad. In the end he didn't, but the ultras of course took his side and tension rose despite them winning 1-0 (they arguably should have gone through as Atletico were terrible in the second leg).

Then Sporting were level on points with Benfica in second, and managed a goalless draw to ensure they were ahead on head to head, and likely to qualify for the UCL, sending Benfica to the Europa. Unfortunately they lost at the weekend and finished third. Again, tensions rose for various reasons and it seems head coach Jorge Jesus was suspended on Monday. The following day this happens.

Bas Dost was thrown to the ground and beaten, a physio was stabbed, and various players were attacked. It now has been reported many players plan to leave the club by any means necessary this summer. Bruno Fernandes has apparently told his family to leave Lisbon, Martins, Patricio, Bas Dost and William Carvalho are among others said to want to leave. To most fucked bit is that due to being attacked in the workplace, if it is found BDC had anything to do with these ultras, or that Sporting were negligible, they could ALL be entitled to leave to free, costing Sporting 100m in transfer fees.

The relegation thing is being touted as a possible threat and punishment, but the league are unlikely to do so as the "big three" hold all the power in the league and make up like 95% of the audience for the league worldwide.

Bas Dost, who has 61 goals in 61 games for them was beaten up for not being good enough. What in the world.

Rui Patricio, one of the best and most consistent keepers in the world, and a club legend, who has stayed with them despite them being pretty average and under performing for years, was also attacked.

Bruno Fernandes, a player who has been fantastic for them, who they signed for a low fee and would probably have been worth £30m, was also involved.

Not to mention Gelson Martins who looks an extraordinary young player.

    Imagine being that monumentally stupid.

My only disappointment is that Tarkowski didn't make it. Other than that, it's a pretty straight forward squad.

    Pleased for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Guess Loftus-Cheek is getting the benefit of Ox’s injury? Otherwise as expected.

Might be a little biased, but I think Lascelles should be there over Maguire and maybe even Shelvey (he's a bit combustible, but against park the bus teams he might actually be some use) should have been called up. Although, they both should have been taken to friendlies to give them a run out. They've both looked very good since about Christmas.

Glad that Hart has been dumped though.

Would honestly rather have Tarkowski than Phil Jones. Would have taken Wilshere too but don't really know who I would take out to fit him in (Wouldn't take Shelvey tbh).

I'd have taken Wilshere over Delph and Tarkowski over Jones, but otherwise it's solid.

A fun exercise in futility would be trying to figure out who the US would have taken. Especially given current MLS forms.

Would have been good to see Lascelles there (I'm a Forest fan so have a soft spot for him). I think Maguire is a good player though.

Rooney's corner against Uruguay (pretty sure) in the 2014 World Cup is the height of world class. Kane wishes he had that skill.
