lol that’ll do it I would say if you feel at all compelled to check out any of his other stuff to watch Uncle Boonmee next. It has a lot of the same stuff going on spiritually speaking with the idea of reincarnation and everybody being part of the same shared lifeforce. Probably a little bit more accessible too (still monumentally slow though)
I actually disagree and think this was waaaaaay more accessible than Uncle Boonmee (which is still the only other one of his I've seen)
Uncle Boonmee is one of my all-time favs. Truly transcendent. Cemetery of Splendor is also beautiful, made me cry. Fukk I still need to see this (and all his other films)
This was playing at my local Alamo so I finally got a chance to see it. For the most part, I loved it. Even in its slow, meandering pace. It was a beautiful representation of human empathy and natural connections. My favorite scene had to be when Jessica stumbles upon the jam session. The natural connection and synchronization of the band contrasts with the out-of-time collection of car alarms we see a handful of times earlier in the film and highlighted the beauty that occurs when a group of people instinctively know how to play off one another. Though I am definitely among those who are perplexed by the ending. The reveal of what's causing the noise undercut the themes I felt were so well executed throughout the film.
