Any other fans here? Been hooked ever since I heard "Desire" back in September of 2014. Just released her debut album in September after releasing EPs in 2012 and 2014.

The song that introduced me to her

A few of my other favorite songs of hers:

The two biggest singles from her debut album:

  2. Slangster

There's a hole in my head where I have no regrets. Supporter

I like Meg a lot but the LP was disappointing. Too many EP songs and the new songs (besides Sorry) just weren't as good IMO.

I love Feather and Parade. Lemon Eyes and Motel are also pretty good and I like the "nintendo-ish" vibe of A Bolt From The Blue. The three EP songs are great too, but you can get those off the EPs haha

But yeah, several of her best songs are on her EPs and not on the debut (namely Heart Heart Head, Monster, Adelaide, and After You).

A Bolt From The Blue was amazing but yeah idk. I think the LP was a letdown but only because of the sheer volume of songs we'd already heard before.

I remember I got into her from being on a date to a theater production and my date was blasting "Adelaide" because it was her "character actor" song haha. One of my favorite people and introduced me to one of my favorite artists. Had the pleasure of meeting her at SXSW and she put up with me despite my blatant SXSWness (aka way too drunk) and played an amazing set, twice, each time with different songs. It makes me wonder if she keeps a consistent setlist or if she changes it for each show.

I still have to see her live. She played in my area last May but it was the same day as my best friend's wedding in which I was a groomsman, so I couldn't make it :/.

  6. I looooove Motel. The rest of the album is okay but that song really does it for me.

The two EPs are better than the album imo. Although I love Motel, Sorry, Parade, Lemon Eyes, and Feather off the album (aside from the 3 tracks included from the "Make A Shadow" EP)

Definitely a fan. I loved both EPs, but I agree with the sentiment that the debut LP was a little disappointing. I’ll still pick it up next time I place an order with Warner though probably.

I saw her at ACL and she killed it. So much energy. The only complaint i had was that Curbstomp just felt empty live, but that might have had something to do with the mix.

I can kinda see that song not necessarily translating well to a live setting, but you're right that it could have been the mix.

Meg got some pretty high praise from Pitchfork for her Coachella performance

"While SZA, Shamir, Deafheaven, Chris Stapleton—and his wife, who sang as a special guest—and others put up a fight, Meg Myers ruled the Gobi tent. The Nashville-born songstress won over the crowd with her smart, incisive alt-rock, showing why she has such an obsessive cult following."

Saying her performance was even better than Deafheaven and Christ Stapleton :ok::thumbup:

Here is her Coachella set for those who may have missed it.

not the greatest quality but it's better than nothing. A facebook friend recorded it off a 60 inch smart TV with an ipad mini camera.

    Setlist:

    1. Desire (0:00)
    2. Motel (5:14)
    3. Go (10:00)
    4. Feather (13:16)
    5. I Really Want You To Hate Me (19:00) (the ending is killer)
    6. Lemon Eyes (23:44)
    7. Sorry (28:52)
    8. Heart Heart Head (32:08) (another killer ending)

lmao at 27:32 "We have two more for you... for your pretty little faces. I just want to squish 'em! :-p "

I recently came across a video of her performing another non-album song called "I Die". Maybe (and hopefully) she'll record that and Say Nothing for her next album.

There's also the song "Cold" that isn't on either EP or on "Sorry", but there is a studio recording. I have it and I think it was just a standalone single, as she has a music video for it.

Meg recently did an interview for Music Connection Magazine for their "Singers on Singing feature"

    Singers on Singing • 2016 - Page 2 of 5 - Music Connection Magazine

Balancing her inherent hard edge with a pop-hook sensibility, singer/songwriter Meg Myers has made an impact on audiences thanks to her ability to deliver kinetic live performances. Touring now to promote her 2015 full-length album Sorry, Myers made her presence known most recently with two searing sets at the Coachella Festival in the desert of southern California.

What makes you a better singer today than when you started?

That I’m not going through puberty anymore.

What are the greatest challenges you’ve faced as a singer?
Getting a good monitor mix live.

Have you had any formal vocal coaching? What effect did it have?
When I was nine I took vocal lessons for a few months from Jean Holden in Toledo, Ohio. The last couple years I’ve worked with Eric Vetro. I’ve learned so many amazing warm-ups and techniques. He has also helped me so much with just letting go and not holding back. He’s like my vocal Buddha.

How do you warm up your vocal cords before a performance?
I do the vocal warm-ups that Eric has taught me, usually from my phone. I also make sure to sing every day leading up to performances to keep my vocal cords strong. Throat Coat is a great tea to drink before performing as well. And I just make sure to stay hydrated in general.

What are your diet do’s and don’ts?
I try to stay away from too much sugar. I eat veggies and protein and fruit. Before singing I stay away from spicy foods and too much dairy. This is all kinda hard to do for me on the road though.

How do you shake out any stage jitters?
I usually take a shot or two of something more on the clear side, or I have a glass of white wine. Sometimes I try and meditate or listen to something inspiring. I never go out and feel ready to perform though. My tour manager comes to get me and I’m like fuck, and then I go onstage and I’m like... Shit... Here goes.

Are you loyal to specific types and brands of microphones and in-ear monitors? If so, which ones?
Right now I use Ultimate in-ears, and I don’t even remember the name of my microphone at the moment, but I like it. Whatever it is.

What are a few of your favorite all-time recordings or performances by other singers, and why?
Harry Nilsson “Without You”; Sinead O’Connor “Nothing Compares”; John Lennon “Mother.” All of these, just so painful and beautiful. Also love that Future Islands performance [of “Seasons (Waiting on You)”] on Letterman. I was just watching that last night.

What are your favorite personal performances of yours, live and studio?
I sang that Michael Jackson song that was in Free Willy in the shower today and it sounded pretty good.

My interest in her music definitely fell off quick, but man, I love those first two eps so much and it's awesome to see she's still kicking ass live.
