Hey does anyone have an extra copy of the record store day release 10” of tales told by dead friends that they’d be willing to sell me for a fair price? I couldn’t find one at my local record stores and the flipper prices are out of my price range. Thanks in advance!
I think my time with this band has come and gone. Also, the verses are a rip of a Nimrod-era Green Day song I can't put my finger on, maybe Nice Guys Finish Last
Song is pretty boring, but I haven't really connected with anything they've done since the self-titled album. I do commend them for actually seeing through the trilogy idea though. I feel like so many artists say they're going to do something like that then just never follow through.
I'm also being a little mean, but I wonder what prompted them to do this if there isn't really anything connecting the albums other than being filled with a bunch of forgettable songs. Please call me out if there was an interview somewhere stating otherwise, but there definitely doesn't seem to be a through-line in the lyrics or melodies, or even a difference in instrumentation/vibe to differentiate the albums sonically. I totally understand that this is their livelihood and they need to have output and stay in front of people, but I really think they would be better off buying themselves some time with "reimagined" albums, a live album, covers album, or anything other than throwing 25 forgettable songs into the void. That's absolutely armchair manager bullshit, but these guys got SO close to doing something special with Black Lines and I feel like we've been hoping they'd chase that kind of experimentation again for a decade.
Oh ya I didn't say it was a GOOD idea lol but they said they were going to do it, and dammit they did! Also to be a little nicer to Mayday Parade, I did forget the first one of these had Pretty Good To Feel Something and I liked that song a pretty decent amount
I will say some songs on these are very good I think Natural off of Sweet has a bit of a Sunnyland vibe (that album is underrated IMO) and I like the closer on Sad I feel like you could have honed and trimmed this down to a single good album, but in the age of streaming it’s a different game. Arrows In Action, Lilac Kings, Silverstein and I’m sure many more have been doing split releases, it must be good for engagement/streams
Idk this band still hasn't been able to live up to their first EP and album for me, though I still really enjoyed self titled and Monsters in the Closet. Not a big fan of this single. Anyways, just want to say that One Man Drinking Games remains my favorite Mayday song of all time. Listening to it for the first time in a while took me here. Jason Lancaster was a powerhouse for these guys.
It’s crazy how much music this band puts out. I haven’t liked a full album since Sunnyland, but they keep releasing singles I like here and there consistently. And just because of how often they tour as supporting acts or on festivals I feel like I’ve somewhat involuntarily seen them more than any other band. Never would come to mind as one of my favorites, but somehow one of the most consistent parts of my life lol.
A Lesson In Romantics, Self Titled, Black Lines, and Sunnyland are all pretty solid to me. Everything outside of that has a few good songs. This new trilogy thing has bored me quite a bit. It's too generic.
monsters in the closet has a very stumbly opening trio but the rest of that is as good as anything theyve done. hold on to me feels like a precursor to some of the softer black lines stuff the album after sunnyland had some cool songs on it but when i heard it i was like "damn you really havent budged an inch huh" and im not really planning on jamming this stuff
Always here for Black Lines love. Agreed that Black Lines and Sunnyland are their best alongside Romantics and self-titled, and it feels like they’ve been on autopilot for the most part since then unfortunately.
that's the word that best describes it to me. for better or worse, i appreciate when bands try to advance or change their sound.
