Liking this a tad more than sweet. I feel like this will be a situation where you will be able to take a few songs from each album and make one really good album. Isn't the last one still due this year yet? i thought the original plan was to release all 3 this year.
July 24th. 1. Set Phasers To Bummed 2. Blame It On The Youth 3. Sweet Sad Sugar 4. Weekend Music 5. Lying To Myself 6. Two Hearts 7. Don’t Give Up On Me 8. Patriotism Of First Tiger Called Into Question 9. So The Story Goes 10. What Happens Next
damn, did not expect 10 songs on one of these, that's cool. Always hoping to be pleasantly surprised by this band, I say this every time, but I absolutely believe they have more potential than the cycle of samey pop punk tunes they've landed on the last few albums.
I genuinely wish them all the best if this is what they wanna be doing, but it's so boring and played out for me. I'm gonna keep holding out hope and checking out everything they release, there is still so much potential there, but these teenage pop rock anthems from 40 year old dudes are getting really old.
The music video vaguely reminding me of when they had that crazy video for Kids in Love, weird times. Wish this band would do something that knocks me on my ass like the S/T or at least takes a swing like Black Lines even again but it's nice to see them still at it and such regardless.
one of my good friends back in the day used to say "you could throw every MP album on shuffle and you wouldn't know what album the song is from" haha i personally revisit self titled, sunnyland, & fall apart the most, i really dug what they did on those last two albums
This one doesn’t do much me. More like a crash, miracle, and by the way are still jammed. Will always give a listen.
really wish they built upon what they did on black lines literally ever. most of the newer stuff is disposable but that album is sick
It’s not bad, just stale. Look at what their peers The Maine have been doing the last decade in comparison and it’s night and day. They just seem content with putting out the same album and playing the same size rooms ever since they took the swing with Black Lines.
I’m being a little mean as I did like some stuff from this trilogy of albums and I really enjoyed seeing them live last year… but songs like Blame It On The Youth and I Miss The 90’s scream of a band that don’t have much left to say. I wonder if they could spend some time just touring their existing music until they have something a bit more meaningful to write about.
Totally agreed with the comparison to The Maine, I’ve thought about that band’s trajectory compared to the other pop-punk bands they came up with a lot. The Maine really are an exception.
