Probably a weird question but are there any sex scenes in this? My parents wanted to watch it tonight but then saw what it’s about and are trying to figure out if they feel like they can watch it with their daughter (me) lol. I don’t really care either way but they asked me to find out

The shot with the mirrors in the store dressing room is so insane to me, love it.

netflix is stinky but literally any studio would have posted that lol, it isn't any different than what warner was doing with gosling for barbie

Think the issue here is that character is a victim and what that scene in particular was conveying.

yes i understand the context of the scene and it’s a stupid thing to post, i just don’t think netflix is unique among distributors in that they would go for cheesy dumb “clickbait” stuff like that.

Man, this movie was so well done. But I just did not connect with it. The performances were incredible, the cinematography was *chef's kiss*, but I left it going "What did I just watch?"

This is really great. Melton was the star for me. His body language conveyed so much. His character was forced to grow up too quickly, yet is still treated as a child incapable of making his own decisions, and he portrayed that stasis so well.

I watched it again this weekend, and the thing that resonates the most is how Haynes is pointing fingers at us for our own obsession with these kids of stories. We were all pretty much too young at the time, but the media really sensationalized the story. Much like Portman's character doing a trashy movie, there is already a TV movie made years ago about the real-life incident. Their wedding pictures were sold and broadcasted everywhere.

It is the same rationale by which we rubberneck when we pass car accidents, that desire to see suffering while also being removed from it. Portman is so desperate to run with the incest angle because she thinks it will deepen the character to the point of not even verifying the story.

My parents have a 24-year age gap (1 more than in the movie), and it perfectly captures the ways in which it alters family dynamics. The physical ability of your parents, the awkward stares, the comments, the ways in which the couple treat each other and take on their roles. It doesn't bother with judging Moore's character (it knows we already will) because much of the damage that was done to both people in the story came from media and tabloid fixation. While everyone agrees that Moore and the real-life woman raped a child and did incredible damage, how much of it comes from us wanting to always ask questions, wanting to know the reasons, and wanting to know how they feel?

One thing I wish I realized sooner was that Nathalie Portman's character isn't supposed to be a good actress, or at least the film they were making was going to be trash. Thinking back on it, I simply missed the clues they dropped (people fawning over her TV show).

I think the prestige nature of May December and the caliber of talent in it made me unintentionally assume that the film she was researching was going to be similarly nuanced. The more I'm reading about it the more I'm coming around. At the very least I'm happy I have plenty to mull over.
