Shamelessly stealing a comment I saw somewhere else that this premiered in May and is releasing in December.

Also I spent way too many years of my life thinking "May/December romance" just meant an unserious relationship (like, you get together in May and break up in December because the holidays makes things serious) and not age difference

    It’s out already?

Far From Heaven and Carol are two of my favorite films ever, really excited.

EDIT: Wow, it is out by me now too, had no idea.

With all the Internet dummies who don't understand the difference between depiction and endorsement, Haynes goes for one of the trickiest of subjects, where even a shade of empathy or understanding in the wrong direction will lead one to being accused of all but condoning it.

Moore and Portman are the big stars but the film tells its story most through the male lead. While anyone can see the obvious visual differences between him and Moore, it is about the way his body desires a life that was essentially stolen from him. There is a scene where he is getting out of the shower, admiring his young, muscular, healthy body, and it says everything we need to know about the fact that his lover, who was his age he is now when they began their affair, is going to continue to sag and decay. Few directors would count on us to catch these feelings without having a character explain it to us.

You should. It might be a best of the year contender. There is so much depth there.

Oh I’m en route, just have to hope there still aren’t pro-Israel protestors clogging the area since the theater is near the White House and mall.

What a film. Easily Portman’s best performance; Moore with two scenes in particular that were so good. I wish it had more of his visual flair, but you at least got some of it here and there. Great score too. Seeing it in a tiny room with a bunch of people, mostly gay men, defintiely enhanced the experience.
