trying to see this on Sunday because i have a free ticket from AAA24, and the closest AMC is 45 minutes away.
Gonna unsub now because I'm catching it with Longlegs the 14th, but I hope everyone enjoys! Looking forward to chatting about it with y'all!
At a screening now. There’s like 5 people in here with me and the advertised time was a minute ago. So, that’s cool. But, my god, I didn’t realize the theater was going to be packed with families seeing Despicable 25 or whatever. I guess it’s a holiday tomorrow, but just wasn’t expecting it on a Wednesday night. I had to skip popcorn as I did not have 30 minutes to wait in the line their concessions had. Thank god, they have a separate booth for just tickets.
Not what I was expecting and kind of weird? Definitely going to have to sit with it and see it again. I’d rank it the same as X but would also understand if people enjoyed it slightly less? But I feel I like X more than most so that’s not a bad thing. Certainly no Pearl which is just on another level.
That’s also what my brain was adjusting to while watching it so definitely why I need to sit with it and see it again.
I thought it was okay. Very stylish and goofy. Goth is great. But also pretty empty as far as characters go.
Like I love Snake Eyes, Blow Out, Dressed to Kill and Body Double a lot so I was like .. oh wait? When expecting something else to going into it, which is my fault.
Not that I was distracted by it, but was wondering where it was that Goth kicked the actor in the head.
No lie, I thought the house with the gondola at the end was the same crazy house from Body Double for a second
Thought this was fine, definitely not as good as the previous two entries. Just felt too scattered and unfocused.
Really disliked this one. Just felt super aimless. Echoing others sentiments that Pearl is on another level. 1. Pearl 2. X 3. MaXXXine
Unfocused is definitely the word for this! Also some of the acting was just like… real bad. Goth played it so grounded compared to Halsey and Kevin Bacon lol. Def gonna be replaying the ball stomping in my head, unfortunately. Maxxxine herself seemed sort of a non-entity in most of the film. She’s in almost every frame, but mostly things just happen around her. Yeah, idk. I didn’t hate it, but definitely my least favorite of the trilogy.
Yeah, I think that’s where I stand. She’s just not as interesting as Pearl and you could forgive the characters in “X” for being broad sketches because it’s a ‘70s slasher. Here, it’s just a lot of big actors not given much to do. Bacon is clearly having a ball and I like the playfulness of Cannavale and Monaghan, but I dunno, it doesn’t add up to much. And speaking of - All of the Maxxxine being haunted by Pearl just kind of goes away. Like, why even introduce it? I had fun watching it, but I don’t think I’ll ever revisit it. Kind of a weak note to end this on.
I saw it yesterday and I'll agree, Mia Goth is a genius of an actor. Loved the movie and can't wait to watch again. I think part of the reason I loved it is because it wasn't what I expected.
this isn't even playing in the local theaters around me. nearest screenings are like 4 to 6 hours away, lame.
