    Variety:

This summer, streamer Max will bend the knee and rebrand back to its original name, HBO Max.

The change comes just over two years after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to drop HBO from the streamer’s name to become just Max. Note that while HBO and Max have carried separate commercial branding during that time, they’ve competed under one “HBO/Max” label for industry awards.

    LOL.

It did seem really stupid at the time (and now) to ditch something with the name recognition HBO has from the title.

I never stopped calling it HBO. Just like I still call it Twitter. Once you have branding like that it’s the dumbest move in the world to kill that.

The "M" in "MarkM" stands for Max. Please refer to me as Mark Max from here on out.

    Anyone remember HBO Go?

I was working at Cartoon Network back in the day and there was a lot of discussion around Go, or Plus, or whatever. We ended up with just going with the channel name with no modifier on it. Probably the right decision in retrospect.

Yeah, wasn’t there an HBO Now and an HBO Go at the same time? They’ve always been a mess, lol.

    Might be Spider-Man...

Was one of the dumbest decisions. Why on gods green earth would you have changed HBO to a random ass name like Max.

Yes, that was largely due to technical limitations at the time. HBO Now required you to log in through your cable/satellite provider while HBO Go was a standalone subscription.

Agreed, that the naming was super confusing though.
