Mavis Staples (born July 10, 1939) is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer, actress and civil rights activist. She has recorded and performed with her family's band The Staple Singers, and also as a solo artist.

Livin' on a High Note has been my car-ride listen all week. It's shocking how perfect a fit M. Ward's production is for her. The song Justin Vernon wrote in particular is really special, but the whole thing is terrific. Imagine hitting your peak in your 70s?
