It's not front to back amazing like I hoped but the best songs are EXCELLENT. Aren't You Excited immediately stuck out to me the most outside of the singles (which are still mostly the best songs, especially Slug), but I do really enjoy the vibe of the whole thing. He definitely had a very singular vision making this and I think it really works for the most part Matt became my favorite member of BH by the end of the band and I love how I have no idea where he could go next, he has so much more range than people think
I haven’t listened with the lyrics in front of me or anything, but I like the way that certain words reappear throughout the album (pretty sure I hear multiple uses of “shy,” “hologram,” slugs and salt, etc)
Aren't You Excited into Code Red too is just cash money. not all of this works but it's so confident and diverse I really don't mind too much. very impressive stuff
everyone's talking about the Dijon influence on this but Purify and Project sound almost like Bon Iver songs to me
Dom got did dirty. Dude did nothing but deliver great verses the whole time and everyone compares him to Ameer for some reason.
Seems like lots of folks are turned off by the mixing and production of Dom’s stuff. I wish he could get the same RCA boost that Matt clearly got with this one, but their own artistic standards are probably relevant, too. Matt waited a long time before launching anything and was clearly fine-tuning everything he could. No disrespect to Dom but he doesn’t seem as into fine-tuning, which isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker but certainly plays into the accessibility with non-BH listeners.
Dom's new one is great and much better mixing than the Prologue thing he released. he doesn't really seem too concerned with promoting it though lol
I have had several hooks from this stuck in my head simultaneously for days now lol. not complaining but it's insane don't know why I'm surprised, "druuug dealer somebody that's gonna heal her" is the catchiest hook in brockhampton history
Me two weeks ago lol. This is probably going to end up my favorite BH-related project…the jazz and funk sensibilities really makes it feel timeless. I want this on vinyl
A couple of songs here are good but overall it's a mess. Lots of different sounds on this but most of them don't really land for me. I would've rather had more of a straightforward rap album from him for his debut. Hopefully his next one will be more consistent whatever sound he decides to go for
I wouldn't call it a mess and I like it overall but I was certainly hoping I would like it more than I do. Only find myself going back to about half the songs
I still dig it a lot. Instant mood boost every time I play it. I think anybody expecting his solo work to be rap-centric is in for a lifetime of disappointment.
Yeah this is still one of my favorites of the year. Just really thoughtful arrangements and unique sounding imo.
