for some reason I thought this would be kind of forgetful buuuut ..I'm an idiot. I hadn't heard any of the singles and this is kind of blowing me away right now. I really love the stripped down nature of these songs. "Loved So Little" fucking rules.
The singles are definitely the standouts on my first listen. Hopefully the rest grows on me going to listen to it more later.
I like the album tracks a lot more than the singles. Couldn’t make it full the whole thing, but I’ll keep at it.
I don't wanna be the 'weird single choices' guy but... weird single choices anyways if anyone wants me I'll be over here crying to "Collar of Your Shirt" for the next few months ty
This feels like it's gonna take a bit longer to get into than his other projects, but I like it. Most interesting songs are definitely the ones that sound the least like The National. "Loved So Little" is very good.
Yeah the one-two punch of “Collar of Your Shirt” and “All for Nothing” really sell it for me. Also really into “Oh Dearie.”
Yeah, I really just love this entire thing. I wasn't crazy on "Distant Axis" at first but I love it now, and I absolutely cannot get "Serpentine Prison" the song out of my head.
Has he addressed how similar distant axis is to the crane wife? It’s not just the same chords, it’s the same exact strumming pattern and rhythm , it really fucks with me.
I directly referenced this to the editor bc you said it better than I could. I did my best, though: Matt Berninger: Serpentine Prison
I forgot this was coming out and will listen later. I wasn't blown away by the singles but I wasn't turned off either; I feel obligated anyway just cause I love the National so much lol
glad to see this post. First time I heard the song I immediately said “I’ve already this but from what?” And then the second time listening in the car I yelled out “the Crane Wife!”
It sounds like the Crane Wife... but then the Crane Wife sounds like .... Going to Georgia.... which sounds like ....
